Designcraft is a prototype-oriented job shop helping our client companies bring new products to market. No two days are ever the same. With varying quantities, part dimensions, materials and finishes you will be challenged to grow your skill set daily while working amongst our team of highly skilled individuals.

Our finishing department is comprised of the artists that turn new ideas into reality. Through the application of paint, polishing, graphics, and assembly they turn custom components made by our team members into high quality visual models that look, feel, and function like real products. Visual models are used for client evaluation, product photography, focus groups, and tradeshows. Sometimes they are the final product used by end customers.

Common tasks include:

  • Prepping and painting of plastic and metal parts (3D printed, machined, or cast)
  • Polishing of metal and clear coat
  • Graphic application and related Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop work
  • Assembly and disassembly of existing and new product
  • Custom color development

This position requires a self-starter mentality. The nature of prototyping demands project deadlines measured in days or weeks. Successful Finishers (Model Makers) are detail oriented, organized, and have a do what it takes approach. Communication with others on the team will be integral in moving a project to completion. Your primary objective is to make sure the product meets our standards and the customer’s requirements, when it comes to form, fit and function.

Ideal Team Member:

  • Good hand skills, including sanding, prepping, and assembling detailed models
  • Budget time effectively with simultaneous projects and deliverables
  • Creativity, problem-solving skills, and a visual eye
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime, and have a “do what it takes” attitude
  • Mechanical aptitude to use various hand tools and shop equipment
  • Computer skills: Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, working knowledge of 3D CAD software
  • Painting, color mixing and detailed sanding experience
  • Silicone and/or Polyurethane casting experience
  • Background in Industrial Design

Requirements

  • Due to ITAR, all employees must be “US persons” as defined by law
  • Candidates must be able to lift 35lbs and potentially stand for long periods of time (spraying parts in paint booth for example)
  • Must be able to understand, write, and communicate instructions in English
  • A valid Driver’s License
  • A High School degree or equivalent
  • Ability to wear a half or full-face respirator as required by OSHA
