Description
SAIC is seeking a System Administrator to join our team in Huntsville, Alabama.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining the virtualized server environment, ensuring high availability, performance, and security of the infrastructure. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, strategic planning, and a service-oriented mindset to support our organization's IT objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and manage virtualization environments using VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting of the virtual infrastructure.
- Migrate physical servers to virtual machines and manage virtual-to-virtual migrations.
- Monitor system performance, resource usage, and plan for necessary infrastructure adjustments in anticipation of load changes or growth.
- Ensure data redundancy and system backup procedures are in place and regularly tested.
- Collaborate with the IT security team to implement and enforce security policies and to maintain best practices for virtual environments.
- Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Document system configurations, standard operating procedures, and system changes or updates.
- Stay current with the latest virtualization trends and technologies and suggest improvements to the existing infrastructure.
- Work with vendors and external support teams to resolve technical challenges and maintain hardware/software life cycles.
Qualifications
Required Education:

Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience administering virtual environments, specifically with VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V.
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) and/or Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) certification preferred.
- Strong understanding of server hardware, storage solutions, networking, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Experience with scripting and automation tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively with different levels of management and staff.
- Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage projects and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to be on-call and available to respond during off-hours for critical support issues
