CREDENTIALS: Bachelor's degree preferred preferably in agriculture, public wellness, social sciences, or related field. A Master Gardener will be acceptable. Experience preferred in working with children, gardening, food, or farm to school.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Should have proven experience in farming. Should possess a strong knowledge of sustainable farming practices. Must be able to work independently and as a part of a team. Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office program or programs as indicated in the specific function within the department. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to exercise independent judgment with tact and diplomacy in all situations. Must be able to work a flexible schedule.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, digging, kneeling stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. Physical requirements of this position are exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.

PRIMARY DUTIES: Responsible for the day-to-day program demands that will involve coordinating, developing, implementing, and evaluating program activities associated with the Farm to School Program.

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversee daily operations of the Farm to School Program
  • Coordinate farm to school classes/activities with teachers and staff
  • Teach standards based on garden education
  • Crop planning, planting, and maintenance of the Farm to School gardens, greenhouses and aquaponic towers for the purpose of providing fresh produce for the students.
  • Provide any extra fresh produce for taste testing, Chef Academy and Edible Education
  • Keeps gardens watered, replenished, and free from weeds
  • Keep greenhouses and aquaponic towers clean and replenished
  • Coordinate with cafeteria managers on serving the produce in the cafeteria
  • Act as a resource for teachers on Farm to School related lessons in classrooms that meet standards
  • Perform program administration duties including but not limited to program outreach and communication, budgetary management, log and record program details
  • Oversee Farm to School interns
  • Perform other duties as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part time, 12-Month Schedule, Non-Exempt
