Our client, a leading company in the renewable energy sector, is seeking an experienced Director of Development to lead the development of solar projects across various U.S. markets. The ideal candidate will manage projects from early-stage development through to commercial operation. This role requires a strategic thinker with a dynamic, entrepreneurial approach, and the ability to collaborate with developers, utilities, internal teams, and external stakeholders. Strong communication and project management skills are essential to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

- Oversee the full development lifecycle, including site control, interconnection, permitting, and program applications.

- Manage multiple projects while coordinating efforts with internal teams and third-party consultants.

- Drive the execution of solar projects within the pipeline, ensuring timely and successful completion.

- Lead market-specific development strategies, including program assessment, site origination, project execution, and management.

- Support due diligence, project review, and screening for acquisitions and co-development opportunities.

- Work closely with analysts, engineers, finance, legal teams, and clients to evaluate and develop viable project investment opportunities.

- Conduct scenario analysis to identify and mitigate technical, regulatory, and financial risks associated with projects.

- Manage financial models, development budgets, and project schedules.

- Prepare reports and presentations for executive leadership.

- Stay abreast of industry trends and developments to contribute innovative ideas and strategies.

Qualifications and Experience:

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Project, and Word.

- 10+ years of experience in developing distributed solar projects (1-10 MW).

- Experience with small utility-scale projects is a plus.

- Proven ability to manage the full development lifecycle for solar or solar/storage projects.

- Experience managing the interconnection process.

- Familiarity with customer offtake agreements and power purchase agreements is advantageous.

- Strong leadership experience with a track record of managing teams to achieve exceptional results.

- Understanding of environmental and utility regulatory frameworks.

- Knowledge of energy markets, including ISO, RTOs, and vertically integrated utilities, is preferred.

- Experience with managing development budgets and processes.

- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.

- Must have full legal authorization to work in the U.S.
