Basic Function

The Junior System Administrator will be responsible for providing technical assistance and support related to computer systems, provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. Expected knowledge will also include supporting and maintaining the existing IT infrastructure. This includes end user support and maintaining/supporting the existing systems infrastructure.

Nature And Scope

Internal contacts include department’s management in pursuit of quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement on the goals to meet needs dictated by the department. External contacts may include customers, vendors and the general public.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Implements, installs, configure, monitors, troubleshoots, and evaluates existing and new server operating systems.
  • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
  • Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
  • Configure, monitor, and maintain email applications or virus protection software.
  • Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.
  • Design, configure, and test computer hardware, networking software and operating system software.
  • Monitor network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.
  • Confer with network users about how to solve existing system problems.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or related field and 3-6 years of related experience. 5 years of related work experience may be substituted in lieu of educational qualifications.
