Purpose

The Nurse Substitute provides nursing care to Pine Crest School students, faculty, and other school employees in a school Health Office setting, using principles of the nursing process from assessment through evaluation.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supports the School’s mission statement and the philosophy of the department and adheres to School policies and procedures, including but not limited to what is outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Has familiarity with our health platforms (Magnus and camp Brain) to chart the health of students and employees
  • Stays up to date with local, state and federal requirements for immunizations and health forms
  • Collects, assesses, and documents the health and developmental status of each student in a systematic continuous manner
  • Provides for special needs students by assessing the student, planning and providing nursing care, and evaluating the outcomes of care
  • Implements medication administration guidelines according to state regulation and school policy and makes sure all medications are properly labeled and stored in a secure place
  • Attends team meetings and participates in the development of educational programs
  • Performs rapid primary and secondary survey in emergency situations and acts appropriately
  • Provides nursing care to sick and injured students and staff
  • Provides UAP training to teachers taking field trips as needed
  • Prepares a trip bag for the UAP, attaches medical concerns form to bag after putting student medications into the bag and checking for medical concerns on all emergency forms provided by parents
  • Attends school field trips on as needed basis
  • Notifies the Director of faculty injuries that occur on the school campus and require Human Resources for Workman’s comp care
  • Follows up with students injured at school who will get supplemental insurance claim forms
  • Responsible for Maintaining AED Devices, twice a month visually assesses and reports any needed supplies or expired parts or parts requiring maintenance to the Director
  • Organizes and provides summer camp nursing services for the school during the summer months following the same standard of care as during the school year
  • Assists in the collection of School Health Forms over the summer and the documentation of information in the Health Record for the upcoming school year
  • Prepares and sends allergy and health related information to Health Office Director and camp or school administrators and teachers or camp counselors prior to the start of a new school year or camp session
  • Maintains trauma emergency response equipment, leads triage in school emergent situations, delegates first aid trained faculty in where to go and assigns treatment protocol to those able to help
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Supervisor or their designee

Job Qualifications

Education

Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing Program

BSN from an accredited college or university

Experience And Qualifications

2 years experience in emergency nursing, school nursing, or in an acute or community care facility with pediatric or adolescent care preferred.

Certifications and Licenses

Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida, in good standing as a Registered Nurse

Current CPR, AED, adult and child, preferably CPR instructor
