The Executive Director of Transportation is a key executive on the Operations team. This role works cross functionally with other leaders in the operations and school leadership departments to ensure the safe, efficient, and on-time transportation of our students. The Executive Director of Transportation builds innovative systems and teams to strengthen customer service for principals and parents, defines and reports on key performance indicators, and prioritizes student safety in all of their interactions. The Executive Director of Transportation fosters an environment which embraces best practices, encourages innovations, and leverages resources to create a clear and defined center of excellence. This role directs and manages the District’s transportation and vehicle maintenance program, ensuring the maintenance of all district-owned vehicles. The Executive Director of Transportation and has a clear focus on customer service, student safety, and staff culture.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensure the on-time and safe delivery of all students everyday

2. Design, implement, monitor, and evaluate student transportation systems and vehicle maintenance programs for the District.

3. Ensure development and supervision of transportation routes for local, special education mid-day runs, after school programs, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, and McKinney student school routes.

4. Maintain bus driver employee and staffing pools to ensure that all transportation routes are covered on both calendar and non-calendar days.

5. Oversee vehicle maintenance and parts warehouse for buses and district white fleet

Provide leadership, direction, coaching, support, and accountability to professional and paraprofessional department staff, working closely with the Office of HCM to accurately predict and fill staff vacancies.

7. Analyze critical needs in assigned areas and work collaboratively to design, implement, refine, and evaluate assigned programs for continuous improvement through the development of standard operating procedures.

8. Advise and provide information to Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Chief Operations Officer, Board of Trustees, district administrators and others as necessary on matters regarding assigned functions/departments. 9. Facilitate and strengthen communication and collaboration among assigned department personnel, district personnel and campus administrators to enhance service delivery of transportation services, program development and customer satisfaction.

10. Ensure compliance with district, state and national policies and procedures regarding transportation and vehicle maintenance issues.

11. Prepare all required district and state reports and applications as needed.

12. Prepare and administer assigned budgets and payroll systems.

13. Maintain accountability and reporting of all fixed assets inventory including vehicles and equipment.

14. Maintain and monitor fuel dispensing systems for district vehicles.

15. Oversee annual preparation and delivery of department employee evaluations.

16. Develop, maintain, and use department databases and software to show progress/improvement on department goals and objectives.

17. Coordinate transportation and vehicle maintenance services to maximize student attendance and participation.

18. Demonstrate awareness of district and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.

19. Facilitate and provide semi-annual transportation safety training to students and staff.

20. Develop and facilitate professional learning opportunities for bus drivers, bus driver assistance and transportation staff.

21. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or 4 years equivalent experience. • 10+ years of progressive experience managing a transportation system in a school district or urban setting or related field and • 6+ years of progressive leadership experience to include: • Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, and Managing employees or teams. • Coaching, Mentoring, Developing, and Performance Managing employees or teams." • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.
