Description

PURPOSE: The role of the Turning Point Academy (TPA) Care Specialist is to provide services outlined in contract between Charlotte Mecklenburg County (CMS) Schools and Thompson CFF. These services include referrals to individual therapy, general and crisis support to school setting, and co-facilitation of parent engagement and psychoeducational groups.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide direct behavioral support to individual students;
  • Attend relevant non-clinical meetings for individual students;
  • Offer verbal de-escalation support and alternative coping strategies when students are removed from the classroom to prevent reoccurrence, and provide crisis support and intervention;
  • Co-facilitation of parent/CMS staff engagement and psychoeducational groups;
  • Participate in planning and implementation of behavior interventions such as identification of triggers, practicing replacement behaviors, etc;
  • Assist with data collection, functional behavior assessment, and behavior plan implementation;
  • Participate in appropriate professional development;
  • Support in referral process for therapeutic services;
  • Provide information to families and school staff on Thompson programs and services
  • Maintain positive relationship with CMS Turning Point Academy staff.
  • Other duties assigned by supervisor.

Position Specifications And Education

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related human service field is required.
  • Preferred experience with child mental health and issues of abuse and neglect.
  • Must have valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
  • The major share of time for this position is at the one of the designated TPA locations but also includes home visits and locations at designated community sites including other schools in the area.
