Job Description

Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic and Scientific Research Corporation (SRC) are teaming together to provide systems engineering, software engineering, logistics, technical, and management support services to multiple program sponsors for 50+ Integrated Product Support for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber Defense, Combat Systems, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (IPS for C6I) systems.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Utilizes expertise in HF radio comms to provide engineering support as required by the Project and Technical leads.
  • Requires daily reporting to St. Juliens Creek Annex - no remote work authorized
  • Provides waterfront support to afloat naval platforms
  • Works on various naval platforms and within a lab environment
  • Tests and troubleshoots systems
  • Performs on-platform installation, troubleshooting, and testing of naval communication systems and equipment
  • Performs system-level software testing to accurately validate operational readiness
  • Performs installation and verification tests on system upgrades and Equipment Changes
  • Performs inspection and testing of installed antennas and antenna lines
  • Repairs electronics assemblies, cables, systems
  • Reads, understands, and interprets technical reports and drawings
  • Utilizes knowledge of networking concepts such as IP, routing, UDP, TCP, and the OSI model
  • Assists troubleshooting and repairing antennas as required
  • Provides written and/or oral status updates of current installations as well as support provided to Atlantic Fleet platforms to supervisor and In-Service Engineering Activity (ISEA) personnel
  • Travels occasionally as required to support SOVTs, SOTs, Technical Assists, etc.


Requirements

MINIMUM SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Two-year technical degree and two years of work-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience supporting naval communications on-board naval platforms
  • Knowledge of the HF, VHF and UHF Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum
  • Ability to test and troubleshoot RF systems to include working with calibration and testing equipment (i.e. Time Domain Reflectometers, Spectrum Analyzers, , Signal Generators, Frequency Counters, Oscilloscopes, and Digital MultiMeters), as well as basic antenna troubleshooting
  • 4-8 years of practical experience to include installation, operating, troubleshooting and repair of radio communication equipment.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification (within 6 months of hire)
  • Ability to work successfully in a collaborative and diverse environment and be a team player
  • Ability to travel CONUS and OCONUS 30-50% of the year
  • Ability to stand or walk while lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling heavy objects; requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • High degree of self-motivation

DESIRED SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • General working knowledge in reference to the hardware installation, system configuration, system administration and maintenance of Tactical Data Links (TDL) systems including: MDLMS, LMMT, Link-11, Link-22, etc.
  • Experience with NAVMACS, ADNS, and Digital Data Circuits
  • General working knowledge of shipboard communications center
  • General working knowledge of BFTN or BRSE systems
