General Duties And Responsibilities

  • To support the vision, mission and guiding principles of the City.
  • While performing any procedure, all associates and contract personnel must observe applicable Safety, Health, and Environmental rules and guidelines. The use of appropriate personal protective equipment is required.
  • Attend and participate in training opportunities and seminars relevant to this position.
  • Adhere to appropriate City operating procedures, benefit rules, employment, and safety policies/practices.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Strategically communicate information and messages to both internal and external customers.
  • Promote the City and educate targeted audiences regarding the City’s programs, activities and initiatives.
  • Design, write, edit, produce and distribute approved news releases, brochures, website articles, fact sheets, City advertisements, and speaking points for public presentation; determine distribution to appropriate audiences; promote events to media; serve as point of contact for news releases and media advisories.
  • Build and manage the City’s social media profiles and presence including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and additional channels that may be deemed relevant.
  • Manage and monitor website and accuracy of information on website and update as necessary.
  • Monitor and engage in relevant social discussions about our City both from existing leads and customers as well as from brand new audiences.
  • Run regular social promotions and campaigns and track their success.
  • Serve as staff lead for the City’s branding campaign.
  • Develop concepts, graphics and layouts.
  • Design and produce dynamic professional marketing materials including but not limited to: videos, displays, banners, signs, invitations, publications and logos.
  • Photograph City-wide events, detailing events through lifestyle shots.
  • Assist with event planning, including working with vendors, event coordinators; document events with City audio/visual equipment.
  • Maintain assigned databases to support marketing and Public Relations goals and objectives.
  • Analyze and provide input in establishing budget requirements.
  • Actively participate in regular meetings with management and other City personnel.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.

JOB SCOPE

Job has recurring work situations involving high degrees of discretion. The need for accuracy and effective utilization of available resources is high. Errors in judgment could cause disruptions to the City’s mission and adversely impact attainment of the City’s goals. Incumbent operates independently but results are monitored by the Board of Trustees. Content of work priorities are largely self determined.

Contacts are across the entire City community and in a leadership capacity. Community contact is a critical component of success in developing good will and support of City programs and initiatives.

Education And Experience

  • A four year degree in one of the following areas is preferred (Public Administration, Business Administration, Communications, Marketing); Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree;
  • Excellent organizational skills to work independently and manage projects with many moving parts.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative thinker, with an ability to use data to make informed decisions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indesign, Photoshop, and other graphics and design based software
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Methods and techniques for creating effective marketing, media and public relations materials.
  • Effective business communications and correct English usage.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) is preferred
  • Project planning, budgeting and management methods and practices applicable to areas of assigned responsibility.
  • Methods and techniques of graphic design, layout and print production.
  • Solid understanding of the principals of branding
  • Industry trends and media practices as they apply to developing and carrying out public relations and marketing programs.
  • Principles and practices of public administration, including budgeting, purchasing and maintenance of public records.
