Job Title: Applications Architect

Description

This is a hybrid work position - 3 days a week in any LRC location Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Guelph, Toronto, Peterborough.

Responsibilities:

  • Applied to both the process and the outcome of thinking out and specifying the overall structure, logical components, and the logical interrelationships of a solution, product, and/or service, ensuring compliance with Government of Ontario - IT Standards (GO-ITS).
  • Defines the structure and relationship among applications, including the identification of re-usable components, quality level metrics, the organization and layering of software, and the determination of interfaces.
  • Responsibilities also include developing, implementing and managing at least one cross-platform application in a large and distributed environment, monitor the whole system, understand all interactions between components on a given level of abstraction, as well as to define limitations and requirements for source code.
  • Defines the interactions between application packages, databases and middleware systems.

General Skills:

  • Experience in the development and implementation of application architectures at the specified experience level
  • Extensive experience with at least two different computing platforms, operating systems, environments, database technologies, programming languages and communication protocols
  • Experience with middleware and gateways Knowledge of performance considerations in different environments
  • Experience in structured methodologies for the design, development and implementation of applications
  • Extensive experience in systems analysis and design in large systems environments
  • Experience in the use of development tools, Computer Aided Software Engineering ( C A S E ) tools, information retrieval packages, and other software tools such as project management software and business re-engineering software
  • Experience in the use of data and process modelling methodologies, techniques and tools, including a working knowledge of metadata structures, repository functions, and data dictionaries
  • Experience in developing enterprise architecture deliverables (e.g. models) Awareness of emerging I&IT trends and directions Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills; verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • A team player with a track record for meeting deadlines

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of object-oriented analysis and design techniques
  • Proven ability and experience modelling current and future-state architectures
  • Experience in developing enterprise architecture deliverables (e.g. models) based on Ontario Government Enterprise Architecture methodologies, processes and practice
  • Knowledge and understanding of Information Management principles, concepts, policies and practices
  • Experience designing detailed functional and technical requirements for new and existing business solutions
  • Experience leading multi-tier application infrastructure design, documentation and configuration for medium or large corporate implementations
  • Experience designing, developing, implementing and maintaining large complex applications, workflow processes and dynamic forms

Must haves:

  • Conduct cost and benefit analyses and feasibility studies, create briefing notes, and provide recommendations
  • Ability to create conceptual architectures across the enterprise architecture domains
  • Has experience solutioning based on a composable and modular architecture approach, including decomposing and composing requirements and design and implementation of API and data streaming integrations
  • Exceptional communication skills required to visualize, depict, and convey complex concepts to a broadly diverse audience including technical and business audiences
  • 7+ years IT solutioning experience

Options Analysis (40%)

  • Ability to support and conduct options analysis according to OPS directives and Government of Ontario IT Standards (GO-ITS)
  • Has experience decomposing and composing requirements to develop solution options using a composable and modular architecture approach
  • Proven ability and experience to define end to end technical solutions that follow a composable architecture approach and take into account current state environment and constraints and analyze the viability of the solution
  • Assess and analyze business strategy, business requirements, current state environment and technology choices to evaluate solution alternatives
  • Conduct cost and benefit analyses and feasibility studies, create briefing notes, and provide recommendations
  • Provide, execute and coordinate enterprise architecture process activities and develops standard methodologies and practices to conduct solution options analysis that demonstrates alignment with IT standards, directives, OPS Target State Architecture (TSA), and LRC technology roadmap.
  • Leads the solution options analysis and technology recommendation for our ministry partners initiatives by providing strategic, technical design and architecture expertise aligned with the methodologies and practices established.
  • Analyzes, defines, evaluates, and recommends enterprise architecture requirements across the Land and Resources Sector.
  • Ability to create conceptual architectures across the enterprise architecture domains.

Solutioning Experience (40%)

  • To provide expertise and leadership and information technology (IT) architecture in a number of the following domains: business, technology, applications, security and/or information and includes enterprise architecture frameworks, strategies, and methodologies.
  • Has experience solutioning based on a composable and modular architecture approach, including decomposing and composing requirements and design and implementation of API and data streaming integrations
  • Creates architecture for various solutions across the Land and Resources Sector ensuring that the architecture is in alignment with LRC Technology Roadmap Practices, taking an enterprise approach

Industry and OPS Standards (10%)

  • Knowledge of industry standards and new trends including but not limited to cloud computing, microservices architecture, low code/no code, cybersecurity, and emerging technology to provide state of the art advice into systems analysis and design.
  • Deliverables can include:
  • Advice and consultation
    • Conceptual models of potential solutions demonstrating alignment with the LRC Technology Roadmap, OPS Target State Architecture (TSA) and GO-IT Standard artefacts
    • Analysis and provision of recommendations
    • Initial or high-level architecture
    • Detailed or elaborated architecture
    • Contributing to the integrity and knownness of the Land and Resources Sector s IT footprint, including what s out there, how it works, how do they interact, what are the dependencies, how is risk managed, what are the vulnerabilities.

Communications (10%)

  • Demonstrated commitment and proven ability with effective stakeholder management
  • Exceptional communication skills required to visualize, depict, and convey complex concepts to a broadly diverse audience including technical and business audiences
  • Interacts with the business stakeholders and subject matter experts in order to understand their business mandates, processes, drivers and client base
  • Experience developing documentation, including presentations and briefing notes and conducting stakeholder engagement
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, negotiation, consensus building, and problem- solving skills
