The role of the advanced system design organization is to provide the foundation for advanced capabilities that will place GDLS in the highest strategic position with the customer. The objective is to provide an extensible technology base that not only meets the customer ask, but also demonstrates what the art of the possible is, keeping GDLS in the technological forefront.

This position is for a mechanical engineer to work in the Advanced Systems Design team. Engineering responsibilities will include the ability to work a broad range of engineering activities at both the subsystem/component and system levels. This may include various detailed design actives like design concepting, studies, static/dynamic/CFD analysis, drawing/model releases, build support and testing of mechatronics subsystem/components. It could also include activities at the system level like architecture development (mechanical and fluid block diagrams and physical space claim modeling), requirements, controls strategies, simulation modeling and functional integration testing.

Responsibilities Anticipate For This Role Are

Rapidly prototype design concepts and detailed designs in support of advanced product development.

CAD model and drawing development.

Apply subsystem/system modeling and simulation techniques to characterize system performance utilizing a variety of software tools and/or hand calculations.

Apply mechanical engineering principles in design and development of various subsystems (materials, welding, bending, machining, geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T) and design for manufacturability).

Provide support to rapid prototyping of advanced vehicle prototypes, technical corrective action formulation, troubleshooting and redesign activities.

Write test plans, execute verification tests and evaluate results of subsystem/system components.

Qualifications Sought

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (completed)

1-3 years of work experience.

CAD modeling experience.

High aptitude for problem-solving.

Ability to adapt to a changing environment.

Ability to operate independently with minimal guidance.

Dedicated with a positive and inquisitive attitude.

Must be able to work independently on component and system designs however, also be able to work well in a collaborative environment for vehicle integration.

Ability to work occasional weekends, evenings when overtime is required.

Ability to travel up to 10% to other facilities and military installations if needed.

Additional Information / Desired Experience

This position may require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance)

Experience with Matlab.

Experience with Mechatronic Systems.

Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

Experience with NX, or Creo.

Experience with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup.

Experience with mechanical design, analysis, fabrication, and testing.
