The Materials Coordinator will be responsible for managing the procurement, logistics, and inventory of materials required for construction engineering projects. This role involves working closely with project managers, engineers, vendors, and field teams to ensure timely and efficient material supply while maintaining cost control and adherence to project specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Source and procure materials, tools, and equipment needed for construction projects. Build and maintain relationships with vendors, negotiate contracts, and ensure quality standards.

  • Track inventory levels and update inventory systems to ensure proper levels of materials are maintained for ongoing projects. Implement stock control procedures to prevent shortages or excess.
  • Coordinate the delivery and transportation of materials to construction sites. Work with project managers to ensure materials arrive on time, minimizing delays and optimizing project timelines.
  • Monitor material costs and maintain records to track budget compliance. Identify cost-saving opportunities through strategic sourcing and inventory management practices.
  • Ensure that all materials meet the required specifications and standards. Handle any discrepancies or defects with vendors and initiate returns or replacements as needed.
  • Work closely with construction engineers, project managers, and field supervisors to determine material needs for each phase of the project. Maintain open communication channels for material forecasting and demand planning.
  • Maintain accurate records of all material purchases, deliveries, and inventory. Generate reports on material usage, costs, and forecasts for project stakeholders.
  • Ensure all materials are stored and handled in accordance with safety regulations and standards. Implement proper disposal methods for hazardous materials when applicable.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in materials coordination, procurement, or supply chain management within the construction or engineering industry.
  • Must have working knowledge of I-MIRS database system
  • Familiarity with construction materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of materials management practices, inventory control, and procurement processes
  • Familiarity with construction materials, specifications, and industry standards
  • Proficiency in using material management software and inventory control systems
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with keen attention to detail

Certifications:

  • Applicant shall have passed IDOT’s Level III Hot Mix Asphalt, Level III Portland Cement Concrete training courses, Soils Field Testing and Inspection (S-33), IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities (S-14). \
  • Any certifications related to supply chain management or construction materials handling are a plus (e.g., Certified Supply Chain Professional, OSHA).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry materials (up to 50 lbs).
  • Willingness to work in outdoor construction environments.
  • Travel to construction sites as needed.
