Job Description

The Immigration Center for Women and Children (ICWC) seeks a full-time legal assistant to work with attorneys, DOJ Accredited Representatives, and other legal assistants in our Los Angeles office. Legal assistants work on humanitarian-based immigration cases for survivors of crime and their families. Dependent upon job performance and the completion of necessary coursework, this role may grow into a Partially Accredited DOJ Representative position.

Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) the following -

  • Assist attorneys with client appointments, completing legal forms, drafting legal documents, gathering evidence and preparing cases for filing.
  • Write client declarations and translate documents from Spanish to English.
  • Perform administrative duties, which may include maintaining records and filing systems, filing documents with USCIS and in court, answering phone calls, and managing calendars.
  • Case management support to assist clients in accessing community resources.
  • Upon pursuit of DOJ accreditation, conduct legal screenings and intake with clients, gather relevant facts and documentations, prepare cases for filings, and manage a caseload of U Visa and/or related cases under the supervision of an attorney.

Qualifications

  • Four-year college bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English required
  • Immigration legal experience preferred
