THIS IS A HYBRID POSITION

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Institutional Review Board (IRB) Administrator collaborates with researchers, IRB Chairs and members, and research administration at affiliate institutions to ensure the rights and welfare of participants in the human research activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interprets and applies federal, state, University regulations, and institutional policies relevant to human subjects' research and privacy.
  • Conducts preview and review of research that qualifies for an exemption to Not Human Subjects Research Status (NHSR), including quality assurance/improvement projects, under the federal regulations.
  • Communicates concerns to research staff (investigators and/or coordinators) with the goal of resolving pertinent issues and approves administrative and procedural modifications.
  • Reviews responsive materials from investigators and determines whether stated conditions have been satisfied or whether additional information is required.
  • Manages the online Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (CITI) program and the program ResearchMatch.org which connects people interested in human subject research studies with researchers.
  • Processes accounts receivable/payable for IRB review fees.
  • Provides training to IRB members, faculty, staff, student researchers, and research coordinators in the use of the IRB electronic submissions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or health related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

    EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in a research environment that demonstrates experience with compliance issues and familiarity with research ethics and methods.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including skill in making effective recommendations and decisions.
    • Knowledge of human subjects' protection regulations and ethical standards.
    • Ability to analyze and apply regulations and ethical codes.
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
    • Ability to multitask and problem solve with high volumes and rigid deadlines.
    • Ability to utilize multiple resources and references to understand complex regulations.
    • Skilled in the use of the computer to include Microsoft Office.
    • Strong organizational skills.
