Job Title: Java Architect

Location: Buffalo, NY (Onsite)

Cloud API tech lead

Overview:

  • Manages the activities of several Engineering and/or Architecture Team Leaders or units and responsible for each Team s/unit s development and systems support efforts.
  • Provides day-to-day direction for the units and applications in line with goals of department and the clients they support.
  • Responsible for managing client relations and expectations.
  • Manages the project queue for their area. Strives to achieve individual and organizational objectives at minimum cost.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of talented engineers responsible for the support, maintenance, and enhancement of our API Gateway in the cloud environment.
  • Take ownership of the end-to-end support process, from monitoring and troubleshooting to incident response and resolution, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in cloud-based API management and leverage this knowledge to drive innovation and drive strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on API Gateway technologies, providing guidance and mentorship to team members and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including developers, DevOps engineers, and security specialists to implement best practices for API Gateway management and security.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the scalability, reliability, and efficiency of our API Gateway infrastructure.
  • Implement technology consistent with Division standards and long-range plans. Ensure adherence to all Department and Technology standards and procedures, including all documentation requirements.
  • Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company s Risk Appetite.
  • Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Scope of Responsibilities: Oversees a development team of 2-5 developers.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities: 5-10

Education and Experience Required:

  • A combined minimum of 9 years higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 4 years technology or systems experience and 3 years' leadership experience.
  • Capable of working on multiple projects of a complex nature
  • Proven track record of leading technical teams in cloud environments
  • Proficiency in RESTful API development and support
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript, with experience in scripting and automation.
  • Testing automation experience with JUnit, ReadyAPI, and/or Postman.
  • Experience with CI/CD Pipelines using GitLab and integration with security and static code scanning utilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical skills and decision-making skills
  • Experience encouraging teamwork and serving as role model when leading and directing others.
  • Experience driving project milestones in an Agile (Scrum and/or Kanban) environment.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor s degree
  • Minimum of 10 years technology management or large program leadership experience
  • Deep understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and experience with API Gateway services (e.g., AWS API Gateway, Azure API Management).
  • Experience with Docker containers and microservices.
  • Experience with Infrastructure As Code (IAC) technologies such as Terraform, Azure Resource Manager or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect are a plus.
  • Good understanding of the Bank s application framework
  • Aware of the Bank s business plan and strategic objectives with ability to shape direction.
  • Understanding business(es) supported and its terminology.
