Job Summary:
The Principal Engineer will play a key part in designing, building, and supporting scalable and robust enterprise services and microservices for payment gateways, token vaults, fraud management, digital wallets, and more. This individual will be integral to the development of our digital payment systems, focusing on their stability, security, and efficiency. The Engineer will lead the technical design, development, and implementation of services that support the company's digital payment processing requirements. They will collaborate closely with product management, software development, quality assurance, and support teams to ensure the successful delivery of our digital payment solutions.
Responsibilities:

  • Leads and mentors a team of engineers, providing technical guidance, sharing best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
  • Designs, develops, deploys, and supports high-performance enterprise services and microservices for our digital payments infrastructure, including payment gateways, token vaults, digital wallets, and fraud management systems.
  • Ensures best-in-class engineering by developing modular, reusable, secure, reliable, and actively monitored services and components.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams including product managers, architects, and other engineering teams to gather requirements, define technical specifications, and drive the implementation of scalable and reliable digital payment solutions.
  • Conducts in-depth technical analysis of payment-related systems and processes, identifying areas for improvement and recommending innovative solutions to enhance efficiency, security, and customer experience.
  • Focuses on business needs through a data-driven approach, ensuring that all development and design decisions are informed by telemetry and data analysis.
  • Adheres to and promotes modern software engineering practices, conducting design and code reviews, and driving improvements in test coverage, including organizing and implementing integration tests.
  • Collaborates with DevOps teams to ensure smooth deployment and operation of services and systems in a highly available and scalable production environment.
  • Troubleshoots and optimizes automation, reliability, and monitoring for delivered products, ensuring their efficiency and performance in production.
  • Stays up-to-date with industry trends in digital payments, microservices architecture, and fraud detection, applying the latest advancements to drive innovation and excellence in our digital payment systems.
  • Works on system design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, ensuring testability, portability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Considers code readiness for sharing and delivery, ensuring that all code meets high standards before being released.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Robust experience designing and developing enterprise services and microservices architecture with .NET in the digital payments domain.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages, including C#/.NET (preferred), Python, Java, and JavaScript, with solid experience in frameworks such as Spring Boot and Django.
  • Proven expertise in building and integrating digital payment systems, including payment gateways, token vaults, fraud management, and digital wallets, with a deep understanding of related protocols and standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, OAuth, EMV).
  • Experience integrating with CyberSource Payment Gateways, Token Vault, Fraud, and Risk Management.
  • Experience integrating with the Fiserv uCom platform.
  • Familiarity with scalable cloud platforms, such as Azure (preferred), AWS, or Google Cloud, and related services like serverless computing, containerization (Kubernetes, Docker), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Proficiency with modern software development tools, version control systems, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and best practices for building highly scalable and maintainable systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proven ability to tackle complex technical challenges and develop innovative solutions.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities, with a successful track record of collaborating effectively in cross-functional teams and mentoring junior engineers.

Compensation: Depending on skills and experience, the compensation range for this role varies between $170,000 and $220,000 per year.
