Job Description
We are seeking an Environmental Scientist to perform wetland delineations across various project locations in Lake and surrounding counties. Responsibilities include collecting soil samples, identifying vegetation, and using hydrology knowledge to determine wetland locations. You will compile reports summarizing findings, including site descriptions, exhibits, USACE data sheets, and photographs. Additionally, you will utilize data to identify potential wetland locations before field visits and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. This role involves developing and implementing strategies to mitigate environmental risks, engaging with stakeholders, managing multi-disciplinary projects, and providing leadership to junior staff members.

Work Site
This is a hybrid position requiring some days on-site in Vernon Hills, Illinois and some days remote.
Work Environment
This position is part of the water resources group, which includes 7 engineers and one wetland specialist. You will work closely with Karolina, who is on track to obtain her CWS in the next 5-6 months, and report to the Water Resource Directors. During the busy season, expect to be on-site 80% of the time, otherwise, it will be about 50/50. You'll average two site visits per week, with the rest of the work conducted remotely. Occasional office visits and virtual meetings are required. You will use your personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement provided. Most projects are in the northeast suburbs. Remote work is acceptable with sufficient experience.
