Job Summary

Performs patient examinations and related activities; performs patient exams in accordance with established protocols, demonstrates knowledge of digital environment; reviews images prior to archiving to PACS and for submission to radiologists for interpretation, maintains patient records; assures the correct patient is being imaged in accordance to hospital protocol of checking at least two patient identifiers prior to completing examination, and patient's clinical history is complete; completes associated paperwork, performs QA/QC on equipment, as needed. Stocks exam rooms with basic supplies, starts IV's and/or administer contrast, as needed, maintains and adheres to accepted sterile techniques and provides clean environment within examination area. Provide student technologists with the basic procedural concepts within responsible modality. Share emergency call, as required. Demonstrates appropriate computer skills. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Demonstrates knowledge and skill to appropriately communicate and interact with patients, families, visitors, and vendors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Knowledgeable of Radiation Safety ALARA principles and practice. Reports directly to the Ultrasound Supervisor.

Performance Expectations

  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of sonographic imaging principles and techniques.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of sonographic imaging equipment and operation.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge and ability to produce sonographic images according to established protocols and interpreting physician guidelines.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of PACS and digital imaging procedures.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge and ability to provide sonographic imaging guidance for specialized studies, such as biopsies, thoracentesis, and others, as required.
  • Demonstrates appropriate communication skills necessary to communicate with physicians, nursing and technical staffs, patients, families, and visitors.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of hospital and departmental safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Skills

Completed an accredited medical diagnostic sonography program. Meet the educational and applicable experience factor requirements for registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)

Work Experience

One or more years experience working as a sonographer preferred. Will also consider new graduate.

  • Basic Life Support (Within 30 Days of Employment Required)
  • ARDMS (Within 1 Year of Employment Required)
