Qualifications

  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Ability to work well with the public and specifically school children.
  • Experience in the preparation of school lunches or related retail/food service
  • Have the ability to organize and carry out lunchroom procedures
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
  • Good health, physical stamina, fitness and vitality

REPORT TO: School Principal

Performance Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibilities of head cook in head cook's absence.
  • Perform routine food service such as instructed.
  • Perform occasional lifting and carrying.
  • Learn the operation of the food service equipment.
  • Observe reasonable standards of cleanliness and sanitation to servicing areas.
  • Appearance and personal cleanliness suited to working in close proximity to food service customers.
  • Work with other food service employees and share workload responsibilities.
  • Other duties related to this job performance area as assigned by the Head Cook or Building Principal.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Assist in the preparation and serving of food.
  • Responsible for sorting dishes, silverware, and other items properly for washing and dishwasher.
  • Operate the dishwasher.
  • Assist in washing pots, pans and utensils.
  • Assist in keeping serving areas and floors clean of spilled foods and other hazardous items.
  • Assist in cleaning kitchen and dining area.
  • Assist in keeping adequate food on serving line.
  • Assist in cleaning dining tables, steam tables and food preparation tables and equipment.
  • Set up and put away computer collection equipment each school day.
  • Collect money and make change accurately.
  • Learn and understand the operation and capabilities of the computer system.
  • Generate reports as needed.
  • Understand the procedures for free and reduced lunch.

Additional Working Conditions

  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
  • Excellent observation and communication skills
  • May perform strenuous tasks, such as lifting, when working with students.
  • Assisting students with behavioral/management needs
  • Frequent evening and/or weekend work

EVALUATION

Evaluation of this job will be evaluated annually by the building principal in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
