We are an independent think tank and community. We anticipate global change, shape narratives, and partner with leaders to craft effective policies for a future in which families and their communities can flourish. As a young organization transitioning to a new phase of maturity, we are seeking a part-time Director of Operations who will be instrumental in this transition. This role presents a rare opportunity to meaningfully contribute to a high-impact organization with a flexible, part-time commitment. We are a small, global team of approximately three full-time and two part-time employees working with contracted expert fellows.

Position Overview

The Director of Operations will play a critical role in supporting the CEO by ensuring smooth and efficient team coordination, managing key operational aspects of the organization, and overseeing administrative functions. This part-time position (0.4 FTE) requires a highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive professional capable of managing diverse functions, including team meetings, internal communications, finance, HR, legal matters, and other administrative tasks. Key Responsibilities

  • Team Coordination and Support
  • Assist the CEO in coordinating team meetings and activities and ensuring alignment across the organization.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for operationally-relevant inquiries from the team and coordinate cross-functional collaboration and communication.
  • Finance
  • Oversee the preparation and monitoring of budgets, financial reports, and forecasts for management, the board, and funders
  • Liaise with the outsourced finance team to ensure accurate and timely processing of invoices, payroll, and other financial transactions.
  • Human Resources (HR)
  • Lead HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and performance management.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and ensure compliance with HR policies and regulations.
  • Legal
  • Coordinate with legal counsel to manage organizational legal matters, including contracts, compliance, and risk management.
  • Ensure that all legal documents are properly maintained and accessible.
  • Miscellaneous
  • Undertake any other tasks or projects as assigned by the CEO, contributing to the organization's overall efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in operations, administration, or a similar role, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management position.
  • Strong understanding of finance, HR, and legal processes within an organization. Non-profit experience is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in office software (e.g., Google Workspace) and project management tools.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively in a part-time capacity.

Working Conditions

  • Part-time position (0.4 FTE) with flexible hours.
  • May require occasional travel, depending on organizational needs (no more than 15 days per year).
  • We close for at least three weeks each year (the week of the 4th of July and two weeks before the New Year).
