Supervisor, Reliability System Services

The Supervisor of Reliability System Services is a critical leadership role responsible for managing the daily operations and long-term systems-focused projects in support of the New England Bulk Electric System. This role demands a strategic leader with a solid engineering background, capable of guiding and influencing technical decisions while managing and delegating tasks within the team. The ideal candidate will ensure the reliability, security, and compliance of the compute, virtualization, storage, and Windows and Linux operating system infrastructure through effective team leadership, project management, and stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities include leading and developing staff, delegating operational tasks, overseeing infrastructure maintenance, managing product, hardware and software lifecycles, as well as executing strategic projects. Additionally, the Supervisor of Reliability System Services will act as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders to foster strong relationships, ensure compliance with industry regulations, and maintain comprehensive documentation.

How you will make an impact

• Guide engineering recommendations, providing strategic and tactical direction to ensure alignment with organizational goals and industry best practices
• Serve as a technical advisor to the team, offering insights and recommendations on engineering, project and operational issues
• Delegate day-to-day operational tasks to team members, ensuring efficient use of resources and timely completion of work.
• Monitor and manage team workload, balancing immediate operational needs with long-term project goals

• Oversee the setup, configuration, and maintenance of systems and storage infrastructure, including physical & virtual systems as well as multiple platform types (RHEL, Windows, other miscellaneous appliances)
• Manage software, hardware, product and contract lifecycles and act as an escalation point with vendors to ensure timely and accurate delivery of services
• Ensure reliable performance of reliability system infrastructure services, addressing issues and implementing improvements as needed.
• Develop and execute long-term project plans to enhance systems-based infrastructure, aligning with organizational goals, IT Tenets and regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with technical chapters and leads, architects, and management team to ensure project alignment and integration with other initiatives
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful project delivery
• Foster comprehensive documentation of in-scope systems and services within Reliability Systems Infrastructure configurations, changes, and maintenance activities
• Ensure all activities comply with NERC CIP regulations
• Oversee the deployment and management of security tool(s) and applications (e.g. vulnerability scanning, multi-factor authentication, endpoint detection and response (EDR), interactive remote access, etc.
• Conduct security risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate identified risks
• Act as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders, developing and maintaining strong customer service relationships
• Routinely engage with stakeholders to understand their needs and requirements, ensuring in-scope solutions meet or exceed expectations
• Perform root cause analysis on incidents to identify problems, track and execute plans to continuously improve services
• Partner with peer Infrastructure Supervisors to ensure services developed within the Reliability System Services team adequately meet business needs

What you need to be successful in this role

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related degree, or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 10 years of technical experience, with five years as a systems engineer is required experience with multiple disciplines a plus (e.g. multiple of RHEL, Windows Server, virtualization, etc.)
• 5+ years of experience in systems infrastructure management
• Proven leadership experience in a similar role, with a track record of managing teams and projects effectively
• Demonstrated understanding of resilient and highly performant systems administration practices, agile frameworks, DevOps principles, and common troubleshooting techniques
• Experience with operating system refresh lifecycle management for Windows Server and RHEL systems
• Understanding of compliance requirements in an IT environment (e.g., NERC CIP, SOC1, SOC2, etc.)
• Strong leadership and team management skills
