In this role, the Director of Finance (the "DOF") is responsible for serving as a member of the Hospitality Committee while personally performing and leading all accounting-related activities with full oversight of the day-to-day functions of the Finance department. This position will also support all Human Resource and Employee Engagement related functions as needed.

The DOF documents and maintains processes that ensure appropriate internal controls are established and properly functioning. Provides training and support for department colleagues and 1440 staff by energizing 1440's Culture Principles and doing your part to help ensure fulfillment of the organization's mission and vision. In addition to the assigned duties below, you will ensure delivery of quality guest experiences, be a positive influence with guests and colleagues, take an active role in the delivery of quality food and beverage presentations, actively support and respect direction by senior leadership, be accountable to performance of your job responsibilities, and ensure adherence to established standards and protocol throughout campus.

Strategic Leadership Duties

  • Support all initiatives, goals and strategic direction provided by the Managing Director, General Manager of Operations, and Board of Directors.
  • Partners with Managing Director and Hospitality Committee colleagues on matters that require strategic decision-making to ensure goals for direct expenses, staffing guidelines, compensation, charitable activities, and deep hospitality principels meet business objectives.
  • Directs, supports, and ensures completion of all finance team related functions and resonsibilties while ensuring all necessary information for financial and or management reporting, tax, and audit compliance requirements are met while documenting and maintaining payroll processing and control.
  • Exemplify a "deep hospitality" leadership mindset that creates a positive atmosphere for guest relations centered by a work environment that brings out the best in all team members.
  • Optimizes opportunities to support the organization's philanthropic efforts and funding goals.
  • Meets with managers and staff as necessary to offer feedback on opportunities to improve communication, workplace conditions, and execution of fiduciary responsibilities and people services to continuously improve business performance and the organizational culture.
  • Supports operational leaders with their tactical plans for effective and efficient performance.
  • As a Hospitality Committee member, you are expected to demonstrate leadership beyond the financial division across all other campus departments as needed.

Departmental Leadership Duties

  • Helps create integrated, high-functioning, and proactive teams while setting short and long-term financial objectives, goals, and metrics.
  • Lead the month end and balance sheet reconciliation processes.
  • Ensure financial reporting control and accuracy in accordance with GAAP set forth by FASB.
  • Oversee all finance functions - Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Income Audit..
  • Maximize cash flow performance.
  • Establish, monitor and enforce adequate controls for revenues, expenses and all assets.
  • Deal honestly and fairly with staff, clients, customers, suppliers, faculty, and financial partners.
  • Maintain accurate and timely financial information; provide analysis and projections.
  • Take responsibility for the professional development among 1440 staff - this includes identifying training needs and supporting the funding of necessary training.
  • Ensure safe and proper storage and access for all contracts, leases, and financial records.
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions.
  • Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in board of directors meetings to include budget and forecast reviews in addition to all other desired reporting and commentary as directed.
  • Provide all requested financial information, documentation and analysis in a timely manner.
  • Work with the HC to achieve budgeted objectives.
  • Maintain awareness of and comply with all legal requirements - including annual audits.
  • File financial business/annual reports

  • Protect the operations and 1440 assets by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
  • Follow strict adherence to financial and operational internal control systems.

Operational Efficiency And Customer Experience Duties

  • Ensures all staff on campus remains committed to eliminating work defects - Mistakes, Rework, Breakdowns, Inefficiencies and Variations (MRBIV) - to improve efficiencies and quality of work.
  • Ensures that key staff is trained on safety and emergency protocols. Maintains safety equipment and emergency kits around the campus.
  • Resolves issues or criseses that arise in guest, and staff areas within operations. Proactively implement process improvements to minimize issues.
  • Attends meetings to understand the needs of and collaborate with various teams.

Other Duties

  • Establishes, manages, and negotiates with third-party vendors and strategic partnership contracts.
  • Collaborates with regulatory agencies to ensure a smoothly functioning, compliant organization.
  • Willingness, availability, and flexibility to work on AM, PM, weekends, and holiday shifts as required by operational needs and business demands.
  • Facilitates daily communication with staff. Reviews guest satisfaction indices and Medallia guest comments to address and resolve guest concerns and eliminate MRBIV.

  • Education:
    • Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance from a four-year college - Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of professional work experience in Hospitality and Service Industry required.
    • Experience negotiating and managing operating contracts and agreements; demonstrated success in evaluating risk/reward scenarios and ROI opportunities.
    • Experience in developing proactive strategies and plans to mitigate business risk.
    • Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and ability to learn/use computer systems and software programs used by 1440
  • Language Skills: Must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Mathematical Skills: Must have strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills; ability to take large volumes of complex information and present in a clear and concise manner to senior management and board members.
  • Reasoning Ability: Must possess the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions while interpreting a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Business Acumen: Must understand the business implications of decisions; displays orientation to profitability; demonstrates knowledge of market and competition; aligns work with strategic goals; demonstrates understanding of current role and job responsibilities. Acts with accountability while committing to achieve 1440's financial goals and mission objectives.
  • Computer Skills: Must have knowledge of Internet software, and Microsoft Suite of Products, Adobe Creative Cloud and type 50 WPM.
