Overview
IQT Labs Overview:
IQT Labs explores the vast range of risks and opportunities emerging in Open-Source technical capabilities around the world. We seek to better understand evolving design methodologies, new techniques, and approaches that are fundamentally redefining global technical development.
In working at the Labs you will join a diverse, multidisciplinary team of engineers, data scientists and designers addressing problems of national interest through hands-on Open Source work. We operate on a rapid prototyping philosophy that includes efforts in all phases of a project life cycle including design, development, testing, and assessment. IQT Labs interns are provided the unique ability to work on real-world problems and be part of providing impactful solutions in two key theme areas: EdgeTech and AI Assurance.

Specific projects will be identified in the spring of 2025 but are typically found at the intersection of hardware and software and AI. Two previous project examples from these themes include:

- AI Assurance Analysis: analysis and insights around AI systems, trust, and incident response
- RF Machine Learning Development: reduce to practice RF Machine Learning techniques
- Maritime Autonomy and Data Analysis: Development of hardware/software systems and the analysis techniques to support data collection
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree (completed or in progress) in a STEAM field such as (but not limited to): Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, Design, etc.
- Responsive, pro-active, enthusiastic, curious, and adaptable
- Self-starter with demonstrated capacity for independent initiative and an attention to detail.
- A deep love of the Open-Source hardware, software, or Hacker/Maker/DIY communities (Familiarity with the tools of the Open Source like GitHub, AWS, Docker, 3D Printing, Adafruit, etc.)
- An ability to communicate key results in verbal, visual, and written media
- Game design experience, Maritime Robotics, ML Engineering and Data Wrangling, RF Collection, Anything Rocket Related, exceptional Lego builds, among many others will win you bonus points
- Strong programming background. We typically use Python, C and Bash.
- Experience with Single Board Computers (Raspberry Pi, Coral, etc.)
- Experience with deploying machine learning models is a plus
- Background in programming (python experience preferred but not required).
- Experience with visual analytics or data visualization tools (D3, Tableau, Plotly, ggplot, bokeh, matplotlib, etc.)
- Experience with experimental design and/or analysis of data collected during experiments a plus.
