Job Description

RESEARCH SCIENTIST 2, Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) , to conduct experimental and theoretical research under the guidance of principal research scientist Phillip D. Keathley . Will develop instrumentation, perform experiments, and communicate results through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. Responsibilities include leading the design, development, and execution of new ultrafast, near- to mid-infrared spectroscopic techniques for in-ovo sexing of chicken embryos; creating a novel test station and experimental apparatus for early and accurate determination of chicken embryo sex using nonlinear spectroscopy and imaging; generating original ideas for research directions and methodologies and improving research methods and solutions; delivering internal reports and updates to project supervisors; overseeing lab personnel; contributing to lab maintenance and upkeep; training students and postdocs in relevant laboratory equipment use; authoring/co-authoring results, presenting findings in peer-reviewed journals and other publications; and preparing and delivering presentations at lab meetings, departmental seminars, and conferences. May participate in determining the group's long-term strategy and financial planning/operations; review and critique reports and analyses of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers; provide mentoring and direction to graduate students, research staff, and visitors.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED : Ph.D. in electrical engineering, materials science, physics, or closely related field; at least four years' related experience in a research environment (may include experience gained as a graduate student); background in ultrafast optics, microscopy, and spectroscopy, including coherent Raman spectroscopy, particularly in the near- to mid-infrared range; proficiency with supercontinuum generation and ultrafast nonlinear optics; experience managing independent research projects with demonstrated outcomes such as peer-reviewed conference presentations and publications; and expertise working with and preparing biological specimens, particularly egg embryos for testing.
