Marine Mammal Observer

Venture Global LNG ("Venture Global") is a long-term, low-cost provider of American-produced liquefied natural gas. The company's two Louisiana-based export projects service the global demand for North American natural gas and support the long-term development of clean and reliable North American energy supplies. Using reliable, proven technology in an innovative plant design configuration, Venture Global's modular, mid-scale plant design will replace traditional designs as it allows for the same efficiency and operational reliability at significantly lower capital cost.

Successful contractors will be involved in arrange of activities, including geophysical surveys and offshore development. MMOs will visually and/or acoustically detect marine mammals and provide guidance on suitable mitigation to minimize impacts to these species. MMO/PAM operators will deliver relevant technical reports to a high standard. Suitable candidates must be flexible and comfortable working in remote, challenging conditions.

Responsibilities:

• Surveys from sea vessels/platforms, which may be for extended periods of time depending on project requirements
• Advising the crew/client on the mitigation procedures required for each activity
• Visual watches to detect the presence of marine mammals within the mitigation zone
• Identification of detected marine mammals to the lowest level possible
• Record-keeping in the required format including details of watches, operations, sightings, and any deviations/non-compliance with the guidelines/consent
• Production of any required field reports, Daily Project Reports (DPRs), Operations Reports, Marine Mammal Observer Reports, and final client deliverables
  
  

Qualifications:

• Degree in marine biology, environmental science, or a related subject is preferred
• 2+ years experience as a Marine Mammal Observer is preferred
• Understanding of local marine policy and legalization in relation to marine mammal mitigation
• Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications
• Flexible and self-motivated with attention to detail
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team
