We are seeking a hands-on AI/ML Engineer who is passionate about solving challenging problems. In this role, you will be an essential part of our AI team, focusing on translating ambiguous and complex business challenges into well-defined problem formulations. You will lead efforts in research, development and deployment of cutting-edge AI/ML solutions, utilizing technologies such as NLP, deep learning models and LLMs.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Use AI/ML technologies to innovate current Optum operations. The product areas include, but not limited to: intelligent revenue management/payment platform, medical chart processing, medical code generation, medical image processing, etc.
  • Work closely with business and operations to understand the business requirements. To be able convert ambiguous requirements to AI solutions
  • Have solid implementation skills to the proposed solutions and work closely with engineering team to create product pipelines that are scalable and flexible
  • Willing to work in an agile and fast-moving working environment
  • Passion for learning and innovating at new AI technologies that can facilitate future projects

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Math/Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Bioinformatics or other technical fields
  • 2+ years of experience in AI/ML development
  • Hands-on experience in building, deploying and productionizing models
  • Experience with generative models, LLM or multi-modal systems (preferably used in application areas related to healthcare)
  • Proficient in Python or other programming languages
  • Experience of developing models in one of cloud environments, such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform
  • Ability to communicate the results of analysis in a clear and effective manner

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Math/Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Bioinformatics or other technical fields
  • Experience in building AI/ML applications in medical/healthcare domains: such as medical coding, medical information extraction, medical chart analysis, entity detection, and other clinical reading comprehension tasks
  • Experience with GenAI and LLM in medical/healthcare domains
  • Demonstrated solid problem-solving skills and ability to work in ambiguous and constantly evolving environment
  • Proven passionate about solving healthcare problem using AI technologies

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
