The following is the description for our Residential Care Assistant position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provides assistance and support to residents in all areas of daily living, working individually and in groups. This will include appropriately prompting, escorting and supervising and assisting residents both in small groups and one on one if necessary. *

2. Provides transportation in agency vehicle for agency business (residents, supplies, food, etc.). *

3. Reminds residents of their medical appointments and may assist residents with their self-administered medications. *

4. Encourages and engages residents to complete tasks necessary to manage a condition (diabetes, incontinence, etc.). For example: (diabetes) assist residents with maintenance of special diets, (incontinence) assist residents with laundry, changing sheets and cleaning room.

5. Leads and engages residents in planned group activities, outings, etc. with supervision. *

6. Attends and participates in staff, program, facility and training as required. *

7. Cleans and confirms facility, resident and program areas are clean, organized and safe. *

8. Assures daily documentation and other resident paperwork is completed as directed.

9. Assists cleaning staff, kitchen staff with redirecting and prompting of residents. *

10. Performs emergency first aid in emergency situations as needed. *

11. Reports suspected abuse or other incidents according to trained and established procedures.

12. Performs other duties as assigned.

· Identifying Objects, Actions, and Events -- Identifying information by recognizing differences or similarities and detecting changes in circumstances or events.

· Getting Information -- Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources (residents, liaisons, family, co-workers).

· Interpreting the Meaning of Information for Others -- Translating or explaining what information means and how it can be used (ex. House rules).

· Making Decisions and Solving Problems -- Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution to mitigate problems.

· Monitor Processes, or Surroundings -- Monitoring and reviewing behavior from residents, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED - KNOWLEDGE

· Language Ability — Ability to read and understand documents such as safety rules, operating manuals and maintenance instructions. Ability to write simple memos, reports and letters. Ability to speak effectively with residents, customers or other employees. Ability to speak clearly and concisely when answering company telephone.

· Math Ability — Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

· Reasoning Ability — Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations and emergency situations.

· Computer Skills — To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and calendaring; Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; and basic online browsing/usage.

· Licensed Care Operations — Knowledge of residential care operations including basic activities of daily living, care and resident supervision, chemical usage and food services. Comprehension of Title 22, Division 6, Chapter 1 Sections 85072 Personal Rights, 85075.4 Observation of the Client, 85076 Food Service and 85079 Activities.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education and Experience: High School Diploma, or G.E.D. One (1) year general work experience required. One (1) year in a residential or other care facility setting required, and one (1) year working in a mental health setting required. Appropriate volunteer and internship experience will be considered.

B. License: A valid California driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a good driving record as documented by a DMV report.

Knowledge and Skills: Ability to engage and communicate effectively with others; general knowledge of community resources; tact and diplomacy; exercise good judgment and act calmly in emergency situations; and an ability to work effectively with persons differing in value systems, ethnicity, cultural backgrounds, language capabilities and disabilities. Ability to follow directions and work within a program structure.

D. Special Requirements: Must be able to meet and receive a criminal records clearance as required by Title XXII, licensing regulations. This includes FBI and DOJ clearance. A health screening, by or under the direction of a physician must have been performed not more than one year prior to employment or within seven (7) days after employment. Health screening must include TB clearance not more than one year prior to employment or within seven (7) days after employment. Must have a current standard first aid card from an accredited institution. Must be physically able to assist residents and/or staff in the evacuation of program facility in emergency situations. Must be able to administer first aid in an emergency situation.

E. Physical Requirements of Position: The following are required in day-to-day performance of the duties of this position: Walking, Sitting, Pinching and Finger Flexion, and Visual/Auditory Acuity are required constantly (over 2/3 of the workday); Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling, Bending, Stooping, Crouching, Kneeling and Twisting are required occasionally (under 1/3 of the workday). Balancing, Climbing and Crawling are generally not required.

F. Actual Experience Working in a Community Care Licensed Facility: Must be able to demonstrate previous work experience at a facility licensed by the Department of Social Service California Community Care Licensing Program (CCL).
