We are hiring for a Product Designer. In this role you will play a pivotal role in creating AI (artificial intelligence) products, solutions and assets that are grounded in user-centered design. You will deliver best-in-class designs ensuring that our experiences, stories, and interfaces bring creative vision to life. You practice craft excellence and provide design rationale for your design decisions. You work iteratively and out in the open to rapidly prototype low-fidelity concepts into high-quality, production-ready products and assets that delight our users. This role is responsible for designing solutions by understanding business requirements, user feedback, and technical constraint.

As a product designer working in AI, you focus on understanding the needs, behaviors, and emotions of users to create intuitive and engaging AI-driven experiences. This includes participating in user research, creating personas, wireframing, prototyping, and testing designs to ensure the AI product is user-friendly and meets the target audience's needs.

This role works on integrating AI technologies into products in a way that enhances functionality and user experience. This involves collaborating with AI engineers and data scientists to understand the capabilities and limitations of AI, designing interfaces that effectively utilize AI, and continuously exploring new AI technologies and trends to keep the product innovative and competitive.

Responsibilities

Product Design

  • Rapidly prototypes low-fidelity to high-fidelity product concepts to solve complex, high-priority business problems. Receives feedback and understands user needs.
  • Creates wireframes, journey maps, user jobs and scenarios, task flows, and personas in support of conceptualizing and delivering assets at various levels of fidelity. Conceptualizes and delivers artifacts at various levels of fidelity. Participates in the development and enhancement of product user experiences via creation of interaction models and detailed designs for new and existing product features while serving as a liaison between users and products. Ensures that the designs of the products allow the user to complete the desired functions in the most effective manner.
  • Produces visual designs from concept to delivery. Facilitates the creative visual design process producing the visual language for a cohesive set of products. Creates a variety of visual design documents including mood boards, storyboards, creative briefs, product renderings/visualizations, color and materials design, motion studies, iconography, illustrations, layouts, and redlines for a set of products, tools, and services.
  • Generates ideation solutions to improve product designs. Utilizes a variety of perspectives when ideating (e.g., business, experience, technology). Synthesizes ideation solutions into a concise articulation of user wants and subsequent solutions. Facilitates enrollment for an ideation exercise as part of a design sprint.
  • Collaborates with and answers questions from Engineering to aid in successful design implementation and) helps them ensure "pixel perfect" or detailed designs. Works with developers to iterate further on designs during implementation to ensure optimal designs. Develops an aptitude on limitations and begins to challenge limitations.
  • Estimates their individual schedule (e.g., time requirements) for work delivery.
  • Defines needs of product designs as the owner for a set of experiences/products based on multiple factors such as user insights and business needs. Identifies needs that are not spoken and includes them in end-to-end design plan and process. Begins to develop a synthesis of user insights and compares with data to identify larger issues that may not be apparent for user desires. Collaborates with product owners and development team members to shepherd end-to-end experiences from concept to ship for products.

Design Components

  • Uses or establishes design systems (e.g., templates, icons, form design, user-interface [UI] controls, navigation models, design trends). Shares learnings and collaborates with other designers to share education for team improvements.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Recognizes and communicates the user needs to team members and recommends ideas to create a compelling narrative for the product. Explores new and interesting ways of telling stories (e.g., video illustrations, presentations, demos).
  • Facilitates fundamental tasks on projects with creative team members, program managers, and developers to define and iterate on new and existing product features. Participates on one or more studies at a time and collaborates, creates, and helps the team deliver product design results. Influences team members in support of product design impact. Leverages the work of others. Contributes to the success of others.
  • Conveys work to peers and managers within their studio team(s) so that the audience understands. Sets context for stakeholders. Helps organize communication with cross-disciplinary teams inside and across through all stages of design and development. Owns communication for what one is doing in a proactive way. Identifies which mode of communication should be used. Manages tonality, being respectful, inclusive, etc. Communicates for a project.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service design
    • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).
Preferred Qualifications And Experiences

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service design
    • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).
  • Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field
  • 2+ years experience shipping products, services, or games and/or delivering to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process.
  • 3+ years experience working in product or service design
Product Design IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
