Looking for an internship to provide hands-on experience testing software programs with our talented and progressive Agile IT department? Farmers Mutual Hail (located in West Des Moines) is currently looking for an undergraduate to intern as a QA Automation Engineer for our 2025 summer internship program. This is a paid internship starting Monday, May 19 through Friday, August 8, working up to 40 hours per week for the summer, with the potential to turn into a full-time, permanent position in the future. The Intern will work with other QA Test Analysts and alongside fellow Software Developer Interns to assist in the preparation for and execution of manual and automated tests. We are looking for a currently-enrolled college student who is close to the West Des Moines area, as this is not a remote internship.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities Include The Following

  • Works with other experienced QA testers and the development team to understand the requirements, scope, and objectives for any new or modified functionality within the system.
  • Creates new and updates existing test scripts, based upon the business requirements and technical specifications.
  • Identifies bugs or unexpected behavior during testing, reports and documents issues found, and re-tests to satisfy expected behavior.
  • Builds and maintains automated tests using automation framework/tooling in support of functional, regression, and smoke tests.
  • Interacts and communicates with other IT department staff.
  • Follows all IT department processes and procedures.
  • Accomplishes other tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled as a junior or senior at an undergraduate college or university, majoring in Computer Science or MIS; who has taken technical college-level courses. (May 2025 graduates will not be eligible).
  • Exposure to Java, SQL Queries, and Object-Oriented Programming concepts is a plus.
