Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Composite Engineer to support the creation, modification, and troubleshooting of composite ply shapes and layouts (nestings) used in manufacturing. This role involves close collaboration with product owners, manufacturing engineers, design engineers, and technicians to ensure the accurate production and optimization of composite components. The ideal candidate will be proficient in composite manufacturing, CAD design, and nesting software, and will have the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ply Shape Modifications & Nesting: Support the modification of composite ply shapes and the creation/modification of ply layouts (nestings) to meet product definition requirements.
  • Nesting Software: Utilize CutWorks and Sigmanest software to nest composite plies, ensuring optimal material use and process efficiency.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with product owners, manufacturing engineers, design engineers, and hourly technicians to create, modify, troubleshoot, and inspect composite ply nestings and associated equipment.
  • Troubleshooting & Inspection: Diagnose and resolve issues related to composite ply nesting and participate in quality inspections of both the process and equipment.
  • Process Optimization: Identify areas for process improvements and support initiatives to enhance the overall efficiency and accuracy of composite ply nesting.

Required Skillsets:

  • CAD Design: Proficient in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), particularly in composite design and manufacturing environments.
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T): Strong understanding of GD&T principles and their application in composite manufacturing.
  • Composite Manufacturing: Experience in composite material production, including familiarity with ply nesting processes and equipment.

Software Requirements:

  • NX CAD Software: Proficiency in NX for creating and modifying CAD designs related to composite components.
  • CutWorks & Sigmanest: Expertise in using these nesting tools to create efficient and accurate ply layouts.
  • Fibersim: Knowledge of Fibersim for composite manufacturing and simulation processes.
  • InspecVision: Experience using InspecVision for composite ply and equipment inspection.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in aerospace, automotive, or other high-performance composite industries.
