BSC was founded in 1972, and is a pioneer and leading manufacturer of metallocene catalysts and co-catalysts that are primarily used to produce metallocene polyethylene, polypropylene and elastomers, but also supplies products into Electronics, Pharmaceutical and Defense applications. BSC operates two sites in Northern Colorado, which include: a main production facility in Mead and a second facility in Longmont. The primary responsibility of the Technical Writer II is to write all batch processing instructions for the Pilot Plant. This work includes converting R&D Lab Write-ups to Pilot Plant Master Batch Records and updating existing Pilot Plant Master Batch Records based on completed Working Batch Records and/or Red-Line Change Forms. This position collaborates and communicates with Chemical Operators, R&D Scientists and Chemists, Analytical Scientists and Analysts, and Pilot Plant Management in all phases of batch record preparation for the Pilot Plant.

This is a part-time position working 10-20 hours per week. Pay for this role is $45.00 per hour. This position is not eligible for BSC's Employee Benefit Program.

Job Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets R&D Laboratory Procedures and interviews R&D Scientists and Chemists regarding those procedures
  • Converts Laboratory Procedures into batch records for Pilot Plant scale-up with input from the R&D Scientist/Chemist and Pilot Plant Chemist/Engineer
  • Interacts with R&D, Pilot Plant, EHS, Analytical and QA during process development and Pilot Plant scale-up
  • Observes work in the Pilot Plant in order to write more accurate descriptions of unit operations when necessary
  • Researches safety hazards of products and raw materials, and writes Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Safety Paragraphs accordingly
  • Establishes standards for style, format and content of batch records and updates documents accordingly
  • Incorporates company standards for safety, process control, recording of analytical results, PPE, waste handling, PSM and quality assurance into all batch records
  • Participates in Process Review meetings and Batch Record Review meetings during process development and Pilot Plant scale-up
  • Participates in Batch Record Reviews, Batch Record Briefings and Debriefings
  • Edits and revises Batch Records as requested by R&D or Pilot Plant
  • Maintains permanent written records of all editing changes
  • Participates in writing Production Batch Records based on Pilot Plant Batch Records, results from Pilot Plant runs and input from the Scientist or Chemist, Pilot Plant and Production

Qualifications

  • BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and 4+ years related work experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Visio, Excel, Access and chemical structure drawings
  • Understanding of organic, inorganic and physical chemistry preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years commercial experience in manufacturing, process development and scale up
  • Experience with batch operations in a specialty chemical or petrochemical field preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of chemical manufacturing unit operations, including batch chemical reactions, distillations, separations of solids and liquids, inert transfers and filtrations, crystallizations, etc
  • High level of attention to detail

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to Colorado weather conditions and manufacturing plant environment. Will be in manufacturing and lab environments that require the appropriate use of PPE.
