Starting pay rate is between $21.70 - $23.93 an hour per the 1386A Working Agreement. Aside from regular working hours, position may be eligible for overtime and on call.

The purpose of this position are to pick up and otherwise clear refuse, garbage, vegetation and other debris in all weather conditions from curbs and roadsides and leave collection areas generally clean. Other seasonal clearing and cleaning operations are also performed. The work involves constant safety awareness, the ability to recognize and take appropriate actions regarding hazardous materials and to use hand tools.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed.   • Mows grass, weeds and clears brush as needed. Rakes and picks up refuse, leaves and other debris around the facilities.
  • Clears and shovels snow. Spreads calcium/salt on the sidewalks, parking lots, steps, and other areas.
  • Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing and light carpentry needs in the facilities.
  • Performs other heavy laboring and various semi-skilled and skilled tasks essential to municipal buildings, public works and utility operations using a wide variety of power, pneumatic and hand tools.
  • Assists with preparing, maintaining and performing job site and work safety practices.
  • Is subject to callouts to respond to emergencies after normal working hours.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications -

Applicants for this position must have graduated from high school or have earned a graduate equivalent diploma (GED), have a working knowledge of how to care for, operate and use tools and equipment effectively and efficiently and have not less than two (2) years' experience in construction or maintenance work.

New hires must obtain before the end of their probationary period and incumbents must possess a valid commercial driver's license, class B and have no offenses which would prohibit or restrict insurability by any insurance carrier providing coverage to the City.
