In this role, you will serve as a technical lead engineer for substation design projects, which include distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission voltage levels. Your responsibilities will include developing electrical design deliverables, such as protection and control designs (for protective relays) and physical designs. You’ll be actively involved in project management, scheduling, and resource planning meetings, while also working closely with clients, vendors, and subcontractors. A key part of the role will be ensuring the quality of the projects (QA/QC) and mentoring junior engineers.
This opportunity is based in Bloomington, MN (near Minneapolis) and offers a hybrid work arrangement, with three days in the office and two days of remote or flexible work.

Key Responsibilities
- Stay current and apply knowledge of design guides, standards, engineering codes, and company procedures.
- Ensure compliance with the company’s quality program and support continuous improvement.
- Guide and mentor other team members on project tasks and deliverables.
- Manage complex engineering deliverables, research, and recommend equipment and materials.
- Oversee budget, schedule, and quality for assigned projects.
- Review work from junior engineers and ensure adherence to standards.
- Coordinate with internal and external teams on project development.
- Communicate client needs and ensure they are addressed within project execution.
- Support business development and pursuit activities as needed.
- Act as a technical specialist within your engineering discipline.
- Assist in people management, including mentoring, performance reviews, and career development.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program.
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Ability to meet pre-employment requirements, such as background checks and drug screening.
- Experience in substation design (physical or protection & controls).
- Knowledge of quality assurance and control processes in engineering projects.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Strong written communication and leadership skills.
- Proficient in planning, delegation, and conflict management.
- Familiarity with intermediate engineering design principles and relevant standards.
