POSITION SUMMARY

The Vice President of Treasury, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, plays a vital role in maintaining the organization’s financial health through effective cash management, banking relationships, and investment oversight. This role, supported by a small team, ensures the organization’s funds are properly safeguarded and invested.

The VP of Treasury manages the organization’s cash flow, credit policies, and oversees short-term investments while ensuring compliance with financial regulations. This leader is responsible for developing and enforcing sound financial strategies that support organizational stability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the primary liaison with external financial institutions, including investment managers, credit rating agencies, and banks. Oversee the organization's operating accounts, ensuring all banking regulations are met.
  • Oversee and manage the organization’s corporate credit card program, ensuring proper usage and adherence to internal policies. Track card balances and ensure payments are timely.
  • Administer the investment portfolios, managing hundreds of millions in pension and endowment assets. Ensure adherence to portfolio objectives and conduct performance reviews of investment managers. Collaborate with external consultants to monitor fund performance and asset allocation.
  • Manage tax compliance, including overseeing state sales tax registrations and exemptions, ensuring adherence to federal and state laws.
  • Ensure the organization’s public posture with charity monitoring organizations is maintained, regularly updating necessary information regarding financials, tax returns, and staff roles.
  • Oversee accounts receivable and cash handling operations, ensuring the safekeeping of funds through daily processing systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all treasury policies related to cash management, investments, and debt management. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of these policies and recommend adjustments as necessary.
  • Act as system administrator for the organization's financial software, managing user credentials and reviewing access levels to ensure proper control.
  • Lead efforts to maintain adequate liquidity, investing excess funds, and initiating borrowings when necessary. Develop and maintain rolling cash forecasts and cash reporting.
  • Coordinate meetings for the Investment Subcommittee and Pension Advisory Committee, providing analysis and reports to ensure fiduciary responsibilities are met. Draft meeting minutes and follow up on action items.
  • Develop, coach, and mentor Treasury staff, promoting professional growth and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Manage the 401(k) plan investment relationship with external providers, tracking performance and market returns.
  • Contribute to strategic financial planning by analyzing financial data, making credit recommendations, and overseeing accounts payable and receivable.
  • Work with IT and other departments to optimize credit card processing and other financial operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 15 years of experience in senior-level treasury, finance, or investment management roles, with oversight of multiple financial functions.
  • Strong decision-making skills, accountability, and leadership in managing complex financial operations.
  • Expertise in GAAP and knowledge of treasury functions, including cash management, credit, and collections.
  • Experience managing relationships with multiple banking and investment entities, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, develop financial strategies, and implement solutions to improve financial health.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated success in overseeing budgeting processes and ensuring financial stability.
  • Proficiency with Office 365 and other office productivity software.
  • Competency in financial software and advanced Excel or similar applications.
