We are currently seeking an experienced academic advisor to join the South College, Dallas team of Student Success Advisors (SSA). SSAs help the students set and achieve academic goals, acquire relevant information and services, and make responsible decisions consistent with interests, goals, abilities, and degree requirements. The SSA serves as a facilitator of communication, a coordinator of learning experiences through course and career planning and academic progress review, and an agent of referral to other campus agencies, as necessary. The successful candidate will have knowledge and understanding of academic advising practices and be skilled in applying these practices in their work. They will understand the process of academic advising and how to deliver a personalized advising experience to each student, which includes academic outreach to at risk students, sharing program requirements, registration, and career planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience working with college students ideally as an academic advisor and/or in college student success and retention.
  • Must be comfortable with technology, strong communication skills, collaborative work ethic, and be able to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Must possess the skills necessary to advise via phone, email, text, and virtually.
  • Must be comfortable speaking to college students individually, presenting information to student groups, and can quickly develop rapport with a diverse population.
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and demonstrate creative problem-solving skills.
