Job Description
The Senior Process Engineer lead fulfills all Processing Engineering responsibilities and in addition serves as a leader in larger capital project development / implementation, mentoring less-experienced engineers, leading incident investigations, and developing of best practices within the production and engineering processes.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct and develop Unit Engineers.
Work with Operations / Logistics and other Unit Process Engineers to troubleshoot more difficult operating issues that occur.
Understand and assist Operation and other Unit Process Engineers to control unit specification on processes being monitored.
Collects/Monitors production data and applies standard scientific and statistical methods to analyze, document, and optimize production processes by increasing throughput, improving yield and reducing cost.
Understand and effectively use data collection / analysis program {PI / Trendminer}.
Understand and effectively use Chemcad for distillation simulation, hydraulics, heat duty.
Maintain Chemcad Penhex model and assist other engineers to use for their units.
Understand and effectively use the LP model for the Penhex Process.
Understand and able to use other engineering tools: Heat transfer, Hydraulics, Control valve size, etc.
Recommends changes or upgrades to equipment, work methods, or other aspects of the process to improve efficiency and utilization of resources including labor, energy and raw materials.
Identifies process bottlenecks and devises solutions to resolve.
Improves process reliability, production, and quality while maintaining and improving process safety.
Generate opportunity list for the units being monitored.
Work with Other Process Engineers to risk rank/prioritize project opportunities to feed the Capital project process.
Conducts tests on equipment / processes and evaluate the tests results to determine if the processes / equipment efficiency has improved by either reducing risk, increasing production, or reducing costs.
Develop, enhance, and assist in implementing plant operating procedures to standardize a given process, which will reduce risk, increase production, or reducing costs successfully.
Leads or participates in incident investigations and advises on corrective actions for the processes being monitored.
Lead/Coordinate Process driven problem investigations to develop a plan of action to correct the issue and prevent recurrence.
Participate in Process Hazard Analysis studies (PHA s) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA s).
Supports / Leads capital projects (greater than 25,000 $) to ensure they are implemented safely, efficiently, on schedule, on budget and that they work as designed; includes working with outside engineering/construction firm(s).
Preform other duties that may be assigned.
REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor s degree in Chemical Engineering required.
10+ years experience working in a petrochemical/oil refinery/chemical plant.
Capital Project Execution (front end engineering, construction, startup and commissioning) experience.
Strong distillation and hydrogenation skills - strong preference for refinery experience.
Experienced using Chemcad, or similar, for distillation simulation, hydraulics, heat duty.
Proven leadership skills and ability to influence at a local level and across a broad organization.
Knowledge of industry standards and practices.
Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
