The Position

Environmental Health Specialists are responsible for conducting drug licensing investigations; label review, sampling and inspection of drug and cosmetic manufacturing plants; inspection of dairies and milk processing plants; certification of septic systems; inspection of food warehouses, traditional food and drink establishments, health facilities, public institutions and other related facilities to ensure compliance with State laws and regulations.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), Division of Animal Industry, Dairy Program is seeking to fill a Environmental Health Specialist I, underfill position to a Public Health Rating & Survey Officer in the Las Vegas, Nevada. The incumbent is responsible for routine inspections and investigations of dairy and meat facilities in the Southern area of the State. The incumbent is responsible for evaluating facilities for compliance with standards, state and federal statutes and regulations through the inspection process utilizing record review, interviews, and observations. The incumbent will complete all required inspection activity documents in accordance with regulations, statutes and policies and procedures, as applicable. Evaluate milk haulers and samplers to the standards set forth in the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance. Collect dairy, water, and single service samples. Serve as a resource for and provide information and education to industry and Department of Agriculture personnel. To Qualify

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Qualifications

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which includes the satisfactory completion of at least 45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours, of academic work in science courses, including biology, chemistry, physics, geology, sanitary engineering or environmental engineering. Special Notes Any person licensed as an Environmental Health Specialist in another state or by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) must obtain and maintain certification of registration by the Nevada State Board within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. This position may require up to 50% travel. College transcripts must be submitted with the employment application. This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
