We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Water/Wastewater Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our team. If you want to contribute to meaningful projects while advancing your career, HDL is the place for you.

Job Summary:

The Water/Wastewater EIT will work under the guidance of senior engineers to assist in the design and analysis of water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This role involves preparing engineering reports, calculations, and specifications while supporting project teams through all phases, from conceptual design to construction closeout. You will collaborate with engineers, technical staff, and clients to complete projects on time and within budget, gaining hands-on experience in solving complex water/wastewater challenges.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Familiarity with water and wastewater engineering principles, either through coursework or experience
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil3D or other design software is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving
  • Valid Alaska Driver's License and a clean driving record

Desired Job Qualifications:

  • Previous experience or internships related to water and wastewater infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of hydraulic modeling and treatment systems is beneficial
  • Enthusiasm for working on projects that directly impact local and rural Alaska communities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with the design and analysis of water distribution, wastewater collection, and treatment systems
  • Prepare engineering reports, calculations, technical memos, and specifications
  • Support project teams in delivering projects from concept through construction
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, technical staff, and clients to complete work on time and within budget
  • Communicate effectively with clients, regulators, and project teams
  • Gain valuable experience and mentorship while contributing your expertise to project success

Work Environment:

This position involves standard office work, including regular use of computers, phones, and office equipment. You may be required to sit for extended periods and occasionally perform fieldwork or inspections. Flexibility and occasional travel to project sites may be necessary. This role may involve lifting up to 40 lbs. as needed.
