What you ll do
The Head of IT will lead the Information Technology (IT) and software development departments and be responsible for the strategic planning, development, and implementation of IT and software initiatives across the organization. The Head of IT will ensure that the company's IT infrastructure, systems, and applications, support and enhance the business operations and goals. The Head of IT will play a critical role in driving innovation, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with industry standards, including North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards and Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Cyber Security Requirements. The Head of IT will meet with prospects. customers, partners and regulators to understand requirements and provide information regarding ERock s systems, security, and operations. This job will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and will be a hybrid position located out of our headquarters in Houston, TX.
You ll make an impact by:
- Strategic Planning and Leadership:
- Develop and execute a software development and IT strategy that aligns with the organization's overall business goals.
- Lead the IT department, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to understand business needs and translate them into effective IT solutions.
- Technology Management:
- Oversee the management and optimization of IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, databases, and applications.
Lead the software development team in feature planning and implementation in consultation with the leaders from other operations organizations. - Ensure the security, integrity, and reliability of the company's information systems.
- Implement and manage enterprise-wide applications and systems, ensuring they meet business requirements and standards.
- Oversee the management and optimization of IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, databases, and applications.
- Compliance and Security:
- Develop and implement IT security policies and procedures to protect the organization's data and systems.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices, including NERC standards and Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Cyber Security Requirements.
- Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify and mitigate risks.
- Project Management:
- Lead and oversee IT projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Implement project management best practices and methodologies.
- Coordinate with various departments to ensure seamless integration and implementation of new systems and technologies.
- Budget and Resource Management:
- Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources.
- Oversee the procurement, installation, and maintenance of IT equipment and software.
- Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts to optimize cost and performance.
- Team Development:
- Build and develop a high-performing IT team, providing mentorship, training, and career development opportunities.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages teamwork and professional growth.
- Set performance objectives and conduct regular performance reviews.
- Have experience with Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards compliance framework developed in 2008 to mitigate cybersecurity attacks on the Bulk Electric System.
- Understanding of NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (NERC CIP) requirements designed to secure the assets required for operating North America's bulk electric system.
- Experience implementing and maintaining CIP Cyber Security Requirements to mitigate risk and enhance cybersecurity measures.
- Certification in IT management (e.g., ITIL, PMP, CISSP).
- Familiarity with cloud computing, data analytics, and cybersecurity.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- 5+ years experience in a hands-on technical role such as system administration, network administration, software development, or system security.
- Proven experience in a senior IT leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, systems, and applications.
- Experience in strategic planning and execution.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of current and emerging IT trends and technologies.
- Experience with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards and compliance requirements.
- Physical requirements and working conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 20 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Position requires ability to work under pressure and maintain tight deadlines. There may also be occasional travel.
