Our programs aim to provide the community with the tools, knowledge, and resources to transform their lives and ultimately achieve their long-term educational, career, and financial goals. These holistic programs and services reach approximately 8,000 individuals and families annually in five languages. Programs include early childhood education, youth mentorship and leadership development, employment services, career readiness training, housing and financial stability, senior citizen services, affordable housing and neighborhood development, and arts and cultural events. Our work expands beyond the Fruitvale district and now reaches across Oakland and into Concord. The Unity Council employs a diverse workforce of more than 350 people who reflect the linguistic, cultural, and ethnic identity of the communities we serve.

Position Summary

As a Systems Administrator at The Unity Council, you will support end users by providing technical help and resolving hardware, software, and network problems. Your duties include maintaining IT equipment, managing the network, performing regular system tasks, ensuring secure connectivity, and creating detailed documentation for system processes. You will communicate technical information to users of varying knowledge levels, follow IT policies to protect data, and ensure compliance. Additionally, you will work on technology projects and stay current with industry trends to suggest improvements. Patience, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail are crucial. Experience in network design, management, system management, and computer repair is required. COMPTIA certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage network infrastructure to ensure seamless connectivity and security.
  • Maintain and manage workstations, and other IT equipment.
  • Manage platforms, accounts, backups, and software updates.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Document network, system, and troubleshooting manuals.
  • Provide technical support to users with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Implement and enforce IT policies and procedures to ensure data security and compliance.
  • Collaborate with the IT team to plan and execute technology projects.
  • Follow industry trends and propose improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Systems Administrator or similar role.
  • Patience and the ability to work with users of varying technical knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of network design, network management, and system management.
  • Proficiency in general computer repair and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent documentation skills.
  • COMPTIA certifications (e.g., A+, Network+, Security+) are a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to reach, bend, and use hands and fingers to handle or operate equipment.
  • Ability to work in various environments, including office settings and server rooms.
