Summary

Provides control system engineering expertise in support of existing and new programs for design thru installation and testing. As needed provide control system expertise as well for in house commercial products improvements. Incumbent is an expert in the field and contributes to the development of new/existing principles and concepts. Develops innovative and competitive solutions to complex technical problems in specific technical area. Works under consultative direction toward pre-determined long-range goals and maintenance of business area. Interacts with customers and in house managers for new / existing programs regarding technical area of expertise

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for applicable activities, responsibilities, knowledge, skills and activities covered in the above descriptions, plus the following:

  • Work as part of a cross-functional engineering team with Scientists, Mechanical and Software Engineers, and Test Engineers.
  • Creates designs of controls hardware, systems, or sub-systems, independently or as part of a team, to design and build one-of-a-kind equipment.
  • Follows standard process for requirements, conceptual, preliminary and final designs.
  • Identifies technical approach and adheres to industrial electrical / safety standards in all designs.
  • Assumes a lead role, both technically and in task or project management.
  • Provides technical and cost analysis for proposal preparation.
  • Plans, coordinates and manages budgets and manpower scheduling.
  • Conducts engineering analyses / trade-off studies.
  • Manages the technical aspects of design and deliverable documents.
  • Provides technical assistance in the process of procurement, fabrication, assembly, inspection and testing.
  • Presents technical data in program reviews and customer briefings.
  • Cultivates relationships with customers, suppliers and technical staff.
  • Establishes ongoing communication with program managers to ensure that requirement, budgets and schedules are understood and met.
  • Provides control system design documents, such as logic / block diagrams, AC power one lines, specifications, electrical schematics, mechanical fab, assemblies / BOM s, test procedures etc.
  • May oversee the transport and set-up of a system in the field and oversee field tests.
  • Perform sustaining engineering of existing products, including obsolescence issues and feature changes/updates.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree plus 6 years relevant experience, or MS degree plus 3 years relevant experience. Bachelor s degree in electrical or Electronics Engineering discipline. Equivalent experience may substitute for education.
  • People and Project Management experience.
  • Experience with the development, design and implementation of software for computer control systems (PLC s and/or embedded controllers)
  • Professional Engineering P.E. license is a plus.
  • Experience with the specification, development, design and implementation of software for computer-controlled PLC / embedded controller systems.
  • Preferred experience or knowledge with LabVIEW programming is strongly desired.
  • Preferred experience or knowledge of National Instruments CompactRIO and/or LabVIEW products a plus.
  • Experience or knowledge of designing Control Systems for harsh electromagnetic and radiation environments desirable.
  • Ability to obtain a future Security Clearance is required for the role. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $102,000-190,000k. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
