Location/Division Specific Information

Our PPD Laboratory Services team has a direct impact on improving patient health through the expertise of scientists, industry thought leaders and therapeutic experts. As the world leader in serving science, our laboratory professionals bring their commitment to accuracy and quality to deliver groundbreaking innovations.

Discover Impactful Work:

Under close supervision, leads delivery of electronic information to the laboratory database. Provides technical advice for the use and operation of the laboratory database system including data quality control and content verification procedures according to SOP's.

A day in the life:

  • Performs database review, evaluating laboratory data for compliance with validation documents, SOPs, and supporting documentation.
  • Performs technical review of database content modification/additional requests, including quality control review, identification, resolution and update of apparent discrepancies and requestor errors. Makes changes to database as required.
  • Follows change control and database SOPs to ensure successful execution and documentation of all changes made within the database.
  • Responsible for addressing questions regarding database content, including information from reference sources, clinical practice standard of care, and peer-reviewed literature. Participates in investigations and supports resolution of quality events.
  • Supports change control communication, custom unit of measure (UOM) requests, Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC), pediatric or custom reference ranges, custom alerts, and supports resolution and documentation of other business needs.
  • Enters and maintains data in the laboratory database, associated applications or tools, and updates relevant information in process trackers and metrics repositories.
  • Participates in tactical improvements to database procedures, processes, and tools.
  • Supports toxicity grading version update, master tox table revisions including quality control review of coding and tox grade output verification QC.
  • Verifies accurate reporting through interface and DSR validation processes.
  • Meets operational needs and provides recommendations on improvements/enhancements to database services.
  • Programs and applications and tools to ensure quality output; including but not limited to programming and DSR validation, and data transfer format development.
  • Generates all complex and/or non-routine reports for internal and external customers; including the scheduling, running, QC, and sending of the report to the sponsor to ensure consistent reporting of data.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualificationPrevious experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 2+ years') or equivalent combination of education, training, & experience.
  • Years of experience refers to typical years of related experience needed to gain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. Years of experience are not to be used as the only determining factor in establishing the job class or making employment selection decisions.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and web-based applications preferred
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of regulated industry / environment preferred
  • Evidenced administrative competence and relevant data services skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to support quality decision making
  • Quality written and verbal communication skills
