Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing the safe movement of children to and from school when crossing public roadways and intersections by observing gaps in the traffic and leading the children across the roadway or intersection. Crossing guards are not to engage in traffic direction or control.

Job Duties

  • Assists children on their way to and from school in safely crossing roadways and intersections.
  • Watch for gaps in traffic and walk children across the roadway or intersection while holding a "stop" sign in such a manner as to be visible to approaching vehicles.
  • Report license numbers of cars who fail to slow down near school zones, or who fail to stop for children when signaled to do so.

Work Days: Monday through Friday during the school year

Work Hours: 7:00 - 9:00 AM and 2:00 - 4:00 PM (20 hours per week total)

Salary: $12.75 per hour

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Have good communication skills and be able to deal with the general public on a regular basis

Work Environment

Work conditions are on or near roadways which pose regular hazards associated with flowing traffic including moving vehicles, loud noises, road debris, vehicle exhaust, and other unpredictable conditions. Work is performed outside and may require performance in inclement weather conditions including wind, rain, or heat and cold.

Candidates must agree to a criminal, education and employment history check.

Must pass a pre-employment medical examination and drug test.
