Summary:

Syntax Talent Solutions is looking for a Director of Business Operations - Claims to oversee a large, high-volume claims department. Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Business Operations - Claims should have strong KPI & metrics experience to run key reports to assess the teams performance and quality assurance. The Director of Business Operations - Claims should be hands-on and collaborative with good listening skills, empathetic nature, and a passion for working for a mission-driven organization. Additionally, they should be very strategic and results driven with a big picture mentality and ability to develop, streamline, and implement process improvements and new initiatives.

Overview of Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and optimize the operational functions of the claims department, ensuring efficient processing and resolution of high-volume legal medical claims.
  • Analyze and restructure processes to improve operational efficiency, client satisfaction, and employee engagement, particularly with a focus on scalable, profitable growth.
  • Develop and manage key performance metrics (volume, call times) to assess and drive team performance, coaching and mentoring a young workforce to meet high standards.
  • Implement strategic initiatives to improve the client journey from onboarding through retention, identifying areas for improvement and long-term growth opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA) and maintain the integrity of confidential client data across thousands of records.
  • Collaborate closely with the IT team to integrate technology solutions, including automation tools, into operational workflows.
  • Foster a transparent, collaborative work environment while managing direct reports and junior staff, creating a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in a high-volume operational environment, ideally within claims processing (e.g., insurance, government programs, medical or legal sectors).
  • Experience working in regulated environments with confidential data (Medicare/Medicaid, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with proven success developing, managing, and mentoring very large teams.
  • Hands-on, strategic thinker with the ability to implement big-picture improvements while focusing on near-term goals.
  • Strong technical aptitude with experience in platforms such as Salesforce and DOMO preferred.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and utilizing automation tools and performance metrics to drive operational efficiency.
