About FHS

French Heritage Society (FHS) is an American 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the French architectural and cultural legacy both in France and the United States, with an emphasis on raising funds for preservation, restoration, and education. An international organization with offices in New York and Paris, FHS is composed of a dynamic team of professionals and a dedicated group of volunteers on both sides of the Atlantic.

Position Summary

FHS is seeking a responsible and organized intern for its dynamic New York office. This internship is a great opportunity for a college student or recent college graduate who is interested in France and fine arts and who has a passion for French culture. This internship provides the opportunity to gain invaluable small-business experience in the non-profit sector, particularly as it relates to historic preservation. In 2024, this position will have the added benefit of working with the French Heritage Corridor, a substantial new initiative of our Chicago Chapter, from the project’s inception.

Responsibilities associated with the position include, but are not limited to the following:

Communications

• Collaborate with staff to develop new marketing and communication strategies and materials.

• Design electronic and print communications for FHS events, trips, advertisements and other initiatives, as needed.

• Help develop social media content, including taking photos at FHS events and expanding FHS’s audience on Instagram.

• Track address changes and update the database, as needed.

Special Events

• Assist with the preparation of high-end Gala fundraising events in New York (including the NY Gala in Fall and the Palm Beach Gala Dinner in February) and various cultural programs organized throughout the Greater New York area and in cities with U.S. Chapters.

• Track event RSVPs, including payment details and recognition listings (if applicable).

• Provide onsite day-of events assistance, including assembling and arranging the delivery of event materials, event set-up and breakdown, and staffing the check-in area.

• Assist with live and online auctions on Charitybuzz, including research, outreach, marketing language, as well as contract and redemption coordination.

• Assist with the preparation of Young Patrons Circle events (5 events per year) including contacting sponsors and partners.

Development

· Help craft donor solicitation letters and membership correspondence

· Assist with member outreach via phone, mail and email

· Prospection mission: help identify new potential partners

French Heritage Corridor – Chicago Chapter

Work with the Chicago Chapter Co-Chairs on the French Heritage Corridor (FHC) initiative (5 hours/week)

· Update the FHC website’s calendar of events and map

· Assist with the Chapter’s social media posts

· Outreach to stakeholders and database management

· Participate in FHC meetings via Zoom

Requirements:

Our ideal candidate will be:

• Detail-oriented and meticulous with strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently to meet deadlines and multitask in an often fast-paced work environment.

• Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully

• Available to attend and assist with occasional evening events

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel

• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop)

• Fluent/native speaker of English required; French fluency/proficiency preferred

• Experienced with eTapestry or a comparable donor database

• Experienced with email marketing campaigns software (mailchimp, brevo…)

• An effective communicator, both written and oral

• Comfortable with telephone communication and interfacing with FHS members and donors

• Team player with a positive attitude

• Interested in non-profit development/fundraising

This internship is paid, FHS will sponsor the internship visa.

Internship term: 6 to 12 months

$16/hour + monthly MTA card

Hybrid Work Environment
