The Opportunity:

The fall Research Program Intern will contribute to WorkRise, a multi-year initiative hosted by the Urban Institute to generate data and evidence to inform policies and practices that can increase economic security, mobility, and opportunity for low-wage workers. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and communicator, attentive to detail, proactive, and able to work as part of a team for a fast-paced, ambitious initiative.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support the team by drafting summaries of research papers and short columns featuring empirical analysis that translate research for non-technical/non-academic audiences for Working Knowledge blog platform
  • Help conduct background research and analysis that can inform strategic decisions, support partnership and engagement activities, and contribute to the development of public-facing reports, including through writing background briefs and memos on topics related to economic mobility
  • Contribute to internal team meetings and assist with managing tasks and completing project deliverables
  • Support event planning and coordination for convenings with external stakeholders
  • Assist the team with other assignments and opportunities as they emerge

What You Are:

  • Be enrolled in a degree-seeking program in Sociology, Economics, Public Policy, Political Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related fields
  • Demonstrable interest in issues related to labor markets, employer practices, worker power, job search and training, and supportive services for workers
  • Interest in and/or experience working in Excel, Stata, R or other data analysis software and managing large data sets
  • Previous internship experience (preferred)
