Architectural Historian

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA), Inc. is seeking an experienced Architectural Historian with expertise in CRM and Section 106 regulations and compliance. This position involves providing regulatory compliance assessments for federally funded or permitted undertakings.
Qualifications:
- Three to five years professional experience in Historic Preservation or a related field along with a graduate degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, or a related field
- The qualified applicant must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards 36 CFR 61 as an Architectural Historian or Historian
- Knowledge of American architectural styles and typologies, including Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern vernacular resources
- Must have experience conducting background research and writing reports at a professional level
- Demonstrated documentation and research experience, including National Register of Historic Places eligibility determinations and effects assessments, historic context development, architectural surveys, deed and property research, Historic American Building Survey (HABS)/Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) documentation
- Understanding of experience with the NHPA Section 106 consultation process
- Experience with cultural resources mapping for basic GIS and data collection
- Project management, proposal, and budgeting experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be capable of renting a car
- Capability to walk, stand, kneel, or bend for extended periods of time and able to carry field equipment and supplies
- Must be willing to travel throughout the U.S. for brief fieldwork, as needed
Responsibilities:
- Complete regulatory compliance reviews under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
- Review undertakings for potential impacts to historic resources and/or historic properties
- Consult with State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO) on projects related to Section 106 compliance and project concurrence
- Review engineering plans and architectural drawings for potential effects to historic properties
- Conduct field investigations and travel to survey a variety of structure types
- Conduct historical research / documentation including field and archival research
- Produce property descriptions, historic contexts, statements of significance, and NHRP determinations of eligibility
- Complete historic resource survey forms and reports
- Conduct historical research / documentation including field and archival research

This is a salaried full-time remote position and will remain open until filled. Starting salary would range between $50,000 and $60,000 depending on experience and location.
