Role Overview

The Chief Legal Officer will play a pivotal role in shaping the legal strategy of the company, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions and supporting the executive team in key decision-making processes. The CLO will oversee all legal aspects of the business, from intellectual property management to risk mitigation, contracts and corporate governance.

The ideal candidate will have a strong legal background, extensive experience in the technology field and a track record of working with high-growth startups.

Key Responsibilities:

Legal strategy & Compliance

  • Develop and implement legal strategies that align with the company's goals and international expansion.
  • Ensure compliance with local, national and international laws and regulations across all markets.
  • Provide counsel on corporate governance, regulatory issues and business strategies.

Risk management

  • Identify, assess and mitigate legal risks related to operations, partnerships and business activities.
  • Oversee litigation, disputes and regulatory investigations, ensuring proper resolution while minimizing risk.
  • Establish and maintain internal policies to ensure legal compliance.

Contract management

  • Draft, review and negotiate complex contracts, including partnership agreements, vendor contracts and customer agreements.
  • Ensure all contracts align with the company’s strategic objectives and minimize legal exposure.

Intellectual property & Data privacy

  • Manage intellectual property filings, including trademarks and patents, to protect the company’s innovations and brand.
  • Oversee data privacy compliance (e.g., CCPA) and ensure that the company handles data responsibly.

Corporate governance

  • Serve as the key legal advisor on all major business transactions, including acquisitions, mergers and strategic partnerships.
  • Support the board of directors in fulfilling its governance responsibilities, including shareholder communications and compliance matters.

Strategic partnerships

  • Lead the legal due diligence process for potential partnerships and joint ventures.
  • Provide legal support for new business initiatives and strategic growth plans.

Required skills & Qualifications:

  • Membership in at least one U.S. state bar is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Experience working in the technology is highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead legal teams and work cross-functionally with executives in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Deep understanding of global legal frameworks, data privacy and intellectual property law.
  • Strong experience in identifying, mitigating and managing legal risks.
  • Ability to align legal strategies with the company’s business goals.
  • Expertise in drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex contracts and agreements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex legal issues to stakeholders clearly and effectively.
  • Familiarity with legal technology tools and platforms to streamline legal processes.

  • Track the company’s adherence to global legal and regulatory requirements, ensuring 100% compliance.
  • Reduction in legal risks, incidents, and litigation cases.
  • Improvement in contract processing times and accuracy.
  • Successful filing and management of trademarks, patents and other intellectual property.
  • Ensure full compliance with data privacy regulations and reduce incidents of non-compliance.
  • Control and optimize legal expenses, including external counsel and litigation costs.
  • Lead successful legal due diligence and partnership agreements that support the company’s growth and scalability.
  • Effective oversight of governance processes and alignment with shareholder interests.
