The Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE) team is a global engineering organization that works directly with customers looking to leverage the latest technologies to address their toughest challenges. We work closely with our customers' engineers to jointly innovate and develop designs for cloud-based solutions that can accelerate their organization. We work in collaboration with Microsoft product teams, partners, and open-source communities to empower our customers to do more with the cloud. We develop solutions side-by-side with our customers through collaborative innovation to solve their challenges. This work involves the development of broadly applicable, high-impact solution patterns and open-source software assets that contribute to the Microsoft platform. In this role, you will be working with artists, engineers, data scientists, and program managers from your team and our customers' teams to apply your skills, perspectives, and creativity to grow as developers and help solve our customers' toughest challenges.

We are hiring a Senior Product Designer, Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE), with deep experience and expertise in designing and developing concepts that optimize the emotional and functional experience of a product, software, device, or service. With your team, you will be working side-by-side with high-impact and strategic customers and their engineers to build visual, interactive, and impactful designs. Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service design
    • OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design
    • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).

Additional or Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design
    • OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design
    • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).
  • 4+ years experience shipping products, services, or games and/or delivering to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process.
  • 2+ years experience shipping products, services, or games and/or delivering to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process
  • Enjoys travel and are comfortable with travel up to 25%

Product Design IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

Product Design
  • Generates ideation solutions to improve product designs, utilizing various perspectives and synthesizing them into concise articulations of user wants and solutions, while facilitating enrollment for ideation exercises. Collaborates with Engineering to aid in design implementation, performs QAs, iterates on designs, and develops an aptitude for implementation limitations. Estimates schedules for work delivery, defines product design needs, identifies unspoken needs, synthesizes user insights, and collaborates with product owners and development teams to shepherd end-to-end experiences from concept to ship.
  • Prototypes new products and features quickly and effectively, presenting to teams and customers for feedback, and using digital and physical tools to demonstrate designs, gauge customer perceptions, and decide on next steps.
  • Produces visual designs from concept to delivery, facilitating the creative visual design process, and creating various visual design documents including mood boards, storyboards, 3D models, and product renderings.
  • Creates wireframes, journey maps, user jobs and scenarios, task flows, and personas to support interaction designs, participating in the development and enhancement of product user experiences, and ensuring designs allow users to complete desired functions effectively.

Communication and Collaboration
  • Recognizes and communicates the user needs to team members and recommends ideas to create a compelling narrative for the product. Explores new and interesting ways of telling stories (e.g., video illustrations, sound).
  • Facilitates fundamental tasks on projects with creative team members, program managers, and developers to define and iterate on new and existing product features, while conveying work to peers and managers, setting context for stakeholders, and organizing communication with cross-disciplinary teams through all stages of design and development.

Leadership
  • Influences both designer and non-designer collaborators. Leads interns and/or vendors to create clarity for others. Participates in interviews.

Other
  • Collaborate with Engineering and perform QAs to ensure quality while developing the ability to challenge design limitations. You'll also produce visual designs by creating the visual language for a set of products.
  • Create wireframes, journey maps, and other elements to support interaction design. You'll also participate in product user experience (UX) improvements by creating interaction models while acting as a liaison between users and products.
  • Clearly communicate and present your work and learnings to peers and managers within your studio team. You will also communicate user needs to team members and recommend ideas to create a compelling productive narrative.
  • Complete fundamental tasks with creative team members, program managers, and developers to define product features. You'll help deliver and ideate product design results by participating in one or more studies at a time, while also influencing collaborators.
